    6. He isn't responsible for the dumbass baserunning.  These guys are pros and besides, once your team is labelled "aggressive", all bets are off for accountability.

I can't listen to Smith when driving home from work because I am honestly worried about falling asleep.

Kudos to the people who can somehow find something interesting in the Smith broadcast, because for 14 years, I haven't.

With all due respect, fan_, just because you did stupid sh*t as a teen, it doesn't absolve everyone else for doing stupid stuff.  And I really don't care one way or another about this Atlanta idiot.  What makes him irritating is how he put others in harm's way.

The more I think about it the more I realize that we may not even need a manager and here is why:
    1. He isn't responsible for the roster, the GM (Dipoto was)
    2. He isn't responsible for the play of the players, they are
    3. He isn't responsible for the team's attitude, they are and a lack of on field "leadership"
    4. He isn't responsible for bad in game moves as he only has so many pitchers/position players
    5. He isn't responsible for the teams prep (see #2)
These are all things I've read on this board. So what is Scioscia responsible for? The lineup card? Even that can be figured out without him, right?

I said it before.  I am a bigger fan of consuming Angelswin than I am the current Angels baseball product (radio/tv/attendance).

I watch a lot less of the endless string of 162 games because of Gubicza.  I don't think he's a bad guy.  I just don't think he's a good color baseball announcer.  There has to be more than "compact swing" and "keeping your hands through the zone".

Put a sticky on this thread.  Its a great idea.

Only one team in 30 is going to win a World Series. The other 29 teams aren't.  We know that going in, so to hold our interest for an hour or so a day (let alone 3 hours), the product better be entertaining.  That product includes the announcers.  I think they are super important.

Look at the Dodgers.  They are going on 30 years without even playing in a world series.  Yet a large percentage of their fans (at least the ones in not in jail) are ecstatic to be able to watch and hear a fantastic broadcaster most nights.  He's an incredibly valuable part of the franchise.

I don't expect for the Angels to have a once-in-a-century announcer like Scully.  But I don't think its too much to ask for something more than "barely competent" that Gubicza and Smith are in their roles (in my opinion).

I would agree with that sentiment.  I don't watch very many of these.  But, there are some that are necessary training tools for us in order to better understand the totality of the situation.

This was a horrible event, and my condolences go out to the survivors of these two news-people (who, by all accounts I've read so far, were very decent and motivated in their jobs).

I saw the original videos posted by the psycho, and a had a few thoughts.  The first thing I noticed is that the two victims (or anyone else around) don't notice him standing there, OR pointing his gun at her for a few seconds before shooting.  It's pretty typical for the news-people to be hyper-focused on their subject, but I was surprised the woman being interviewed didn't even notice him.

The most evil part of his video, is how calm and steady his hand is with the camera and gun.  This is a "person" who is about to attempt to kill people, and he's breathing and and conducting himself like Hannibal Lector.  Unfortunately, there's lots of these types out there.  He is like a "Dorner" clone; he convinced himself of his victimhood to the point that the actual final act was anti-climactic as "regular business."

When the female victim is shot, it looks like she is struck with at least 3 or 4 rounds.  She turns and runs away at least several yards (we don't yet know exactly how far away from the shooter she got).  This makes a point about ballistics and other factors (adrenaline, drug usage, body armor, hit-points, etc.).  A lot of Police shootings look like overkill due to the amount of rounds, but studies have shown that these factors play a big part in the effectiveness of the shots.  I don't post this info to defend all Police shootings, just to illustrate the point.

I saw an impressive picture this evening.  It showed the newsroom where the two murdered news people worked, and I was impressed that the station was still up-and-running.  It reminded me of how Police, Fire, and Military must continue-on with the mission even while grieving lost comrades (which our Department did today).

I'm glad this sack of crap saved all the costs of going to trial; I just always wish these types would take that final step as their first step and spare the rest of us trying to figure them out.

Since the World Series, other than Vladdy and Torii, pretty much every guy who was a consistently good hitter before he got here has had his performance drop considerably. Seems to me with that high return of failure, spending money on player development and signing international players would have been a much better investment.
