Most vivid memory of Angels baseball at Riverfront Stadium: The night the fake riverboat smokestack burned.

I remember doing a pub crawl with a friend who is a diehard Reds fan on Opening Day 2013, and the game went 13 innings. I just looked up the box score. Do you know who got the win? Mark Lowe. I do not remember him at all.

  2. Tyler Skaggs tore his UCL in August 2014, 5 years ago this week. Since then, Richards busted up his knee at Fenway and then tore his UCL... twice. Ohtani, Heaney, Tropeano, and Ramirez all tore their UCLs. Skaggs died. Shoemaker could have died after fracturing his skull on a comebacker. Alex Meyer threw a couple of great games and we got excited that perhaps Eppler had found a gem... and then Meyer tore his labrum and never pitched again. Pena tore his ACL the other day. There have to be others I'm forgetting.

I've been watching Angels baseball since 1985, though my vivid memories only go back to 1996. Has there ever been a stretch like this with starting pitching health?

Not watching the game, but I cannot tell you how many times I have read this year that the Angels got screwed by the umps, only to find out later, it is a borderline pitch.

Like this f*cking team deserves the benefit of the doubt.

Cahill has sucked this year; he did not suck in the top half of the inning.

He came in with the bases loaded and threw a pitch that should have ended the inning, then gave up a single. Both runs charged to Suarez.

    Mos Eisley cantina, baby.

When I was in high school, my best friend and I would pull up next to pretty girls at a red light and look at them seriously while blasting the cantina music on my Jeep's CD player. We thought eventually some girls would find that adorable. None ever did. Though once a cop stopped us because we were doing that in a "no cruising zone." He asked what we were doing and we told him the truth, complete with the music. He said it was the funniest thing he'd seen all week and let us go with a warning if we promised not to cruise anymore.

his defense isn't ready for prime time...

I agree. If I thought the Angels were in the hunt this season, I would be upset. But I think the second half is the perfect chance to work on things.

The reason I say this is, I saw Thaiss play for Inland Empire several times in 2017. I thought he was a waste of a first round draft pick and might not rise above AA. He proved me wrong. He doesn't look like he can play 3B at this level, but I'm going to give him more than 11 games to prove me wrong again.

Why is Thaiss playing again?  Hopefully they are trying to trade him.

33 at bats into his career, he is batting .152.

33 at bats into Mike Trout's career, he was batting .133.

I'm not saying we should expect anything close to Trout out of Thaiss, but why not give him playing time? It's not like the Angels are making the postseason this year.
