JustATroutFan got a reaction from Vegas Halo Fan in Most disappointing and most unappreciated Angels player so far in 2017?
    Most disappointing: Calhoun
He still plays terrific defense in left field but his hitting has been super atrocious so far this season. Has a .212/.289/.328 slash line in over 200 plate appearances now. Pretty shocking to see because you would expect Calhoun to hit and see a lot of fastball since Trout is hitting behind him. But he's looked lost at the plate,
    Most Unappreciated: Maldonado
Does not get enough credit to me but he's been outstanding defensively behind the plate, calls a good game, and seems to throw out would-be-base stealers every time they run on him. Offense not too bad either for a catcher.

Probably trying too much because no one else is hitting a lick.

Well, after today's game, he has a slash line of .293/.482/.793 in 83 plate appearances this month. Ruth-like numbers. The thing is though, his BABIP (Batting Average Balls In Play) is just .250 at the same time this month. The league average BABIP is .302. Yup, I agree with you that he's been getting unlucky when he puts the ball in play (not counting home runs) this month. So Trout has been great and unlucky at the same time this month is what I am saying. LOL

But at least Trout got another hit. Took a good throw from Souza to get him even while playing shallow. Dude has always been great. In May, he is getting on base at 50% clip in over 70 plate appearances.

At least Trout is playing, so worth watching. Looks like Kole (Cold) Calhoun is back in the lineup. Name should be Cold Calhoun until he starts hitting again.

Kole should chance his name to Cold Calhoun with the way he has swung the bat this season.
Probably the most disappointing Angel this season.

JustATroutFan got a reaction from Angel Oracle in Somehow we're 24-23
If the Angels win at least 85 games or make the postseason, Trout gets 90% of the credit if no one else is hitting in the lineup and the pitching stays where they are in terms of rankings by WAR, as Dochalo posted. Heck, right now, you can give Trout 90% of the credit for the Angels being 25-23. If by the end of the year, if a couple of guys in the lineup ends the year with good overall numbers, the percent of credit for Trout goes down from me.
Everyone has been either decent or horrible outside of Trout and the pitching isn't exactly lighting the world on fire either.

    .100/.100/.100

Somebody has to drive in the runs. We leave too many men on base but Pujols seems to be at his best when there are RISP. You can dismiss RBI as stat but runs are whole point of the game. I'd rather have Pujols up with the bases loaded and 2 outs than just about anyone else on the team not named Trout.

Pujols has 11 more RBIs this year than he had at the end of May last year.

I'm pretty sure (about 99.99%) that the last 2 games inflated that OBP big time.

Edit: Yup, before these last 2 games, Maybin's OBP for the month of May was just .315. Below average.

JustATroutFan got a reaction from halomatt in Trout has a .308/.472/.923 slash line this month but with just a BABIP of .167?
The league average for BABIP, I think is .302. BABIP doesn't count home runs and only counts for balls hit into the field of play. This is funny because Trout usually has a high BABIP and a large part of that is because he's fast. So his .167 BABIP this months means that he's getting really unlucky when he's not hitting home runs.

JustATroutFan got a reaction from Angel Oracle in So let down by Maybin
I remember saying on here that Maybin might struggle this year since his BABIP last year was very high in the .380 range. On top of that, I also stated that last year was his first good year with the bat in his career. So he had a lot of luck with the bat in 2016. Even if he doesn't hit well, I still think he'll be a solid contributor because he plays good defense and has pretty good speed.

It's still only May. Last year, it was at this time when he started to suck. And people were making excuses on why that was the case.

Some really good names that you just mentioned. If I remember correctly, Jeter went something like 0 for 30 in 2004 before getting a base hit. Yes, the great Derek Jeter did that.

Still think he has done a good job despite the 17-20 record. I mean, the starting pitchers have been hurt (Richards and Skaggs) and your other starters are composed of Nolasco, Chavez, and JC Ramirez (he would be good coming out of the bullpen though) and you're just 3 games under .500 close to Mid-May? Not bad at all. And not to mention that the Angels lost the best player in the game (Trout) for 6 games already and we're only in May.
Regardless, I think the GM should be held responsible before the manager since he's making all the moves.
