But Bumgarner and Ryu are quality and much better than what we can throw out there right now and pairing them with Ohtani who is a clear #1 type starter, you got yourself a nice rotation. 

I'm not excited about a 7 year contract for a pitcher so a pair of 2nd tiers over one enormous contract is more appealing.

I think Ryu is gonna be a pretty good value wherever he goes. Dude isn't flashy, but he misses the big part of the bat, and does so very consistently. I know there have been some injuries in the past, but I feel like he gets you near ace-level results for a significantly lower price.

Look he either wants to be here, or he doesnt, its not unreasonable to push him to a decision before we have no other options.  If that offends him, enjoy NY. 

The players you alienate by giving them a take it or leave it offer?  You can do that to fringe guys but not the top free agents.

I wouldn't be so sure. I'm not sure any owner wants to win as much as he does. This team has pulled off "amazing" before. GMJ, then they doubled down with Torii Hunter. Pujols and Wilson, The doubling down on Hamilton, Ohtani and Maitan.
You never know.

Strasburg would offer the Angels more future payroll flexibility than Cole while still provide Ace services for at least three seasons. That would allow the Angels the ability to trade for a higher value pitcher in the future or afford keeping players that extend their value that are home grown. Plain and simple, you have to keep the payroll in check enough to keep those players you are grooming to play alongside Trout for the next ten years. 

If we lose out on Gerrit Cole that means we'll probably overpay for Strasburg. 
That, or the Angels go for Ryu and Bumgarner. Or sign one of the two and trade for Contreras and Darvish.

I know it’s beyond the pale but nothing would make a bigger statement than Arte somehow nabbing both. Backload the deals as much as they’ll accept. Let Simmons walk, wait for Pujols and Upton come off the books. Keep all the kids to balance payroll out over the next 5 years, and worry about ugly years 6-8 when time comes.

hey....Orioles fan here....and a regular on the Orioles Hangout....  The general consensus is that Bundy is what Bundy is...a backend of the rotation and reliable innings eater.  He gives up too many HRs both in Camden and on the road but is fine for what he brings.  Of course, Mike Elias/Sig Mejdal are of the Houston rebuild mode....i.e.  sell any and all parts, etc.   So we fully expect another 100 plus loss season and maybe two, but are generally positive about the rebuild under the new regime (and that the Angelos sons are much more hands off than the old man who is ill and not involved in active franchise issues any longer).   We are hopeful to hit a lottery ticket with any of the four coming back, but most believe this is an OK, fair return (unlike the Villar to the Marlins recently which most feel was a true salary dump).       Don't be expecting any Arrieta like transformation, though....those days are long gone.   Braves fans said the same thing about Gausman...we knew better.  Same with Dylan.  He is what he is.    Dylan is an excellent character guy, very stoic despite having essentially to rebuild his career after surgery and his decline in velocity and many of us were  saddened by his injuries because when he was drafted, he was the top pitching prospect in the nation and his first year in the minors with 98 plus fastball and killer slider was really amazing.

Yeah but Donaldson’s commitment will be less and so will his money.
In 3 seasons they can get another 3B via free agency or can draft a college hitter at the position this draft with an eye on the future, or Fletcher can end up at 3b too. Wilson / Jones at 2nd.

I agree with that all 30 teams have the money if the owner chooses to use it. 

The Angels are legit on the edge of a completely disastrous offseason and it’s the 1st week of December. 

Good trade for both sides. Angels get a back-end starter for their rotation the next two years with some upside and the Orioles get four lottery tickets with potential for more themselves. My initial reaction is a solid trade by Eppler and Orioles management.

Ok, no Hernandez, Kochanowicz, Sandoval, Rodriguez, Soriano or Canning.
Also, Dylan Bundy feels so much like Matt Harvey. Former top pick with great stuff has career derailed by injuries, settles in as back of the rotation starter.

One mistake I see a lot of people making is thinking about Ohtani as two full time players. He’s a great #2 in a rotation but he isn’t coming close to 180 innings next year. He’s a great DH but he is at best getting a little over half the ABs there. There needs to be talented depth to cover there.

These guys never come free, so I’d brace myself if I were you.
