  1. Might have something to do with the WBC. Playing departing players before they go, and young players before they are reassigned. I don't like the WBC because of the distraction and the possibility of injury. If other countries want it let it be played in conflict with winter ball.
  2. Gotta be positive. I looked at the Street and Smith publication and they picked the Angels 4th in the A.L. West. Low expectations. Might surprise people.
  3. Kind of disappointed that a player this Spring was issued #36. Wish they kept it out of circulation a few years. Weaver isn't a Hall of Famer and I wouldn't officially retire his number, but I'd say he would be on the A list in terms of all-time Angels.
  4. Of course, players back in the day were bound to a team for life and had to supplement their income with off season jobs. I remember Jay Johnstone saying 50 years ago that he worked in the Angels ticket office. Today's players are wealthy and train in the offseason. Sometimes I wonder if they work out too much and make themselves vulnerable to injury.
  5. For a long time, rotator cuff tears were epidemic. You don't hear much about it any more. Today, it's Tommy John elbow ligament tears. The root causes will be figured out eventually. I kind of think today's pitchers are fragile because they don't build arm strength with pitch counts.
  6. José is beginning to suck the air out of the broadcast booth again.
  7. Hammy responded when the nurse came to check on him.
  8. Maybe he can try pantyhose to hold the leg together.
  9. I like that catcher Sanchez that finished the game. Can't find him on the 40 man or prospect roster.
  10. I remember 60s players, but don't remember which ones were highly regarded. Does anyone remember which ones did or didn't meet expectations?
  11. Josh can't hit a low-outside slider with a race car either.
  12. For a split second I thought the Padre lineup was the Angel lineup.
  13. It's hard for me to consider Kotchman a bust. If he had stayed with the Angels I think he would have had a much better career. He was just a first baseman that didn't hit a lot of home runs. Your list is great. I forgot about some of the players you mentioned.
  14. According to my MLB At Bat, it will be televised.
  15. Just stay away from booze and coke for 7 more months and you get a free $25+ million. I have no doubt he will. Hopefully Arte will let the baseball people make the baseball decisions from now on.
  16. I agree with this. Really think management is shooting for 2018. If pitching is strong this year, maybe they will open the checkbook next offseason. I really wanted them to get an impact catcher, but I definitely wouldn't have paid what Washington did for Wieters.
  17. I don't like that change. If they want to speed up the game, expand the strike zone and make the pitchers pitch fast. Pitchers go over hitters before the game. No need to mull over what to do. Commercials are the biggest slow down problem. Watch some classic games on YouTube and see how many fewer commercials you get.
  18. Very interesting topic. I'm going to post my list before reading other responses. Brandon Wood Rick Reichardt Tom Egan Tom Satriano Jorge Fabregas Darryl Scioners Dallas McPherson Jay Johnstone (became an impact player after leaving the Angels) Chad Curtis Willie Aikens Devon White (became an impact player after leaving the Angels)
  19. I think a strong start is important if they want to get to the postseason. The Angels aren't good enough to dig themselves out of a deep hole.
