bruin5 got a reaction from Blarg in Future of Angel Stadium with Arte keeping the team
In the article the mayor says she has been a long time season ticket holder and a big Angels fan.

bruin5 got a reaction from HaloBronco in Diamond Sports Group (owner of Bally RSNs) files for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, MLB to produce Padres games after missed payment
Sinclair is notorious for their carriage battles with cable, satellite, and live streamers. The really tend to over value their products and it was clear that they immediately looked to recoup their costs of acquisition of Bally from the carriers.
The stupidity was assuming they could effectively price a stand alone stream, especially since subscribers are more likely to not be fans of every team (i.e MLB, NBA, NHL teams) they carry.
Seems like they would be in a better financial position if they would have been carried by Dish, Frontier, YouTube Live, Hulu Live, and FUBO.

bruin5 got a reaction from jsnpritchett in OC Register: Angels’ Brett Phillips confident in new swing despite slow start
So, you’re saying the Angels should live with this situation (assuming he hits like Velasquez) so that they can attract a 4th outfielder next year?

bruin5 got a reaction from HaloBronco in Arte Moreno announces he is no longer looking to sell the Angels
Cool. Looking forward to paying $100 to park the car. And also to traveling on the 405 at 6pm to get to the game…

bruin5 got a reaction from Angel Oracle in Do we really need another starting pitcher?
Yes. Always need depth. And, if our pitching comes through and our minor leaguers are effective at the major league level you can always trade that extra pitcher at the deadline for a prospect(s) because pretty much all teams end up having some type of pitching need.

bruin5 reacted to Warfarin in The Official 2022 Los Angeles Angels Minor League Stats, Reports & Scouting Thread
IIRC, that was part of the reason he fell in the draft - concerns over health. He bucked the odds and had a nice start, but here we are now.
I think our pitching depth is really good compared to where it once was, but there are a lot of question marks in terms of some of our depth options. I would not really count on either Canning or CRod at all, and anything we get out of them is a bonus, IMO.

bruin5 got a reaction from Taylor in Shortstop candidates for the Halos
I would be happy just standing pat at SS. The combo of Fletcher/Soto is definitely serviceable and will provide a WAR increase over last year. However, I look at them both as placeholders because I can see Neto being called up next year. I think he has the ability and the mental make up to help the Angels next year. I don’t want us to trade pitching for a one or two year guy. We need that depth in the minors because you know we will need to tap into it at some point.

bruin5 got a reaction from ten ocho recon scout in Jo Adell: Has he been given enough time to prove himself?
I did a random search of Angels top prospect lists where Jo Adell was listed. The descriptions talked about his power and speed, but none of them that I read talked about his defense. If it was average I’d understand but it had to have been even worse than it is now as he worked his way through the minors. One even talked about what a great outfield they’d have with Adell playing next to Trout.
I may have been the only one surprised that he was so bad defensively…

bruin5 got a reaction from TempeAngel in Now what? What moves would you like to see them make.
With all the other moves I believe we can work around SS for part of the year with Fletcher and Soto. I think Neto will be a viable option after spending a few weeks at AAA. I also think Rengifo is a viable starter at 2B. I’ve always been a fan of his. We could even make do with Squid if he only hits RH. My priority is Shohei.

bruin5 got a reaction from stormngt in I think we really screwed up with R Iglesias
You mean that Syndegaard and Iglesias would be angry after getting shipped to playoff teams? In mid season trades it’s normally contenders looking for players to plug a hole. Players know this is always a possibility.

bruin5 got a reaction from rafibomb in From Maddon’s book: Minasian got in a “heated discussion” with hitting coaches about how Brandon Marsh should swing
With every new excerpt from his book, my respect and faith in Minasian grows stronger.
Maddon is so out of touch that he doesn’t realize his comments make him look like a bitter dinosaur in today’s baseball world.

Interesting. When he interviews for a GM job I wonder if he will frame it exactly like this.

bruin5 got a reaction from Blarg in Nightengale provides update on Angels Sale ($3B?, Brisk Negotiations, Done in the Next Few Months?)
It was sarcasm, probably bad sarcasm.
On the topic of ownership, I would think that at some point prospective owners would want to reach out to the city regarding development of the parking lot. That’s an issue that probably doesn’t come up in most sales but it could be a very attractive opportunity for the right buyer.
Of course, when you talk to a politician you are just asking for information to be leaked.
