  1. while i don't think the padres are a playoff roster, bud black wasn't helping the team get there. he makes a lot of in game decisions that are beyond questionable.
  2. i'm telling you guys, the angels aren't trading players away. they're in the mentality of playing for the post season, they're hardly out of it by any stretch. i don't understand why we think they're in clearinghouse mode.
  3. you are so not living up to your name. as a fan who has read doyle, i am displeased. whenever dudes like you make arguments like this you always use the same tactics and make the same mistakes. you list an abbreviated category that you think validates your point and then you misrepresent the players in the category. you pay no mind to the myriad of other signings or trades that have benefited the team. of course dipoto has missed some opportunities, made some mistakes. find a gm that hasn't. cherry pick from the top gm's if you like, you still won't find one. shit, the cardinals are the cream of the mlb crop and they've made mistakes in judgement too. green was/is a bench player shuttling between AAA/mlb. there has been no evidence to suggest the angels think otherwise because that's the role he's being used in. rutledge was a competition trade at 2b. they signed/traded for several guys and looked for what stuck. ianetta has a long history of being a high on base guy. freese is the only guy that might "fit" your argument, but why don't you take a look around mlb and tell me how many quality 3b there are. it has been the driest position for talent for several years. it's pretty hard to judge dipoto harshly for getting a guy who can give you decent production at a position where offense is hard to acquire and/or develop.
  4. i really don't get all the "head case" stuff against gomez. didn't it boil down to like an extremely heated season series or something like that? i'd take that dude in a minute, he's a very good player.
  5. i reject the premise. the gm is either the gm or he's not the gm. i might except the premise if dipoto was a new hire, but he's been here for years.
  6. while i totally agree that he'd prefer a long term deal over a QO, preferences mean very little. i'll put a six pack to each of you that the angels don't offer freese a QO (tdawg) and that he doesn't get a contract for more than headley (scotty). i don't see either happening.
  7. you wouldn't have said that last year.
  8. feel free to express your freedom of choice and watch soccer, but you'll never catch me jumping on a soccer bandwagon. crowded or otherwise. soccer needs to change the rules like the nhl did, to increase scoring. after that abolish the tie rule, then i'll give it a shot.
  9. how in god's name do we get a draft pick for freese? you can't possibly be saying we give him a qualifying offer. he'd sign that in a new york minute.
  10. if you combine these two thoughts, then maybe you talk to the padres about a wilson and aybar trade. the padres are dogshit at SS and could use another quality SP. i wouldn't be taking on gyorko unless the angels are dumping some moderate bad contract as well, which doesn't include CJ. i do like liriano and the padres have a strong farm even after all their moves this offseason. the idea has merit, if you believe the angels are toast for 2015, which i'm absolutely positive nobody in the angels FO believes. it does have a negative though, which is that the angels would then be left for dead at SS, and that's a hard position to fill capably. many franchises look for years trying to find a long term answer. something to think about.
  11. so, the angels just decided to take this year's draft off then? ok, noted.
  12. i'm betting cameron, at this point.
  13. that's interesting. i hadn't read any of that regarding some kind of congenital elbow defect. well, now i'm interested to see where he will go, specifically.
  14. i worry about kubitza's long swing. i'd like to be wrong, but i am not a big believer.
  15. me too, but i don't believe it. if i'm wrong, then i'll acknowledge it later today. it seems ridiculous that last years number one would fall farther than top 15 over tommy john. i should add if i am wrong and he did fall to the angels, it would be stupid not to take him. last years number one at twenty six? come on.
  16. i didn't like our starting pitching going into the year, but i'm surprised at this offense and somewhat at the bullpen.
  17. aiken was the #1 pick last year, he's not dropping to the angels. tommy john is far from the end of the world, he won't make it past 15. probably easy top ten.
  18. you don't really here, "slapdick" very often.
  19. in this case, no i don't care. as you said, almost all of his work was done with the cards. he'll go into the HOF as a cardinal, as he should. the angels are paying him for what he did with another team. luckily, we're getting something out of him, but we're not seeing 240 million dollars worth. i think few angel fans have really embraced him as a face of the franchise. i think most view him as a cardinal who's on the angels.
  20. if their's a lawsuit it won't be for being hit by the bat. that is covered on the ticket waiver, which you agree to upon purchase. if i was a lawyer, i'd go after willful negligence. specifically, there's hours of tape from countless games where announcers, etc. are talking about how dangerous these bats are and how "someone is going to get hurt one of these days". use evidence like that to make your case that mlb should have known there was a risk greater than necessary and what natural risk would be covered by the ticket waiver.
  21. it would make more sense to disallow some of the bats that are currently legal, than to put up nets. soft wood, like ash, and thin necks make for a bad situation.
