If they know a young player is going to come up and absolutely suck, they might as well keep Hicks. If he's actively blocking a capable player that's one thing, but there is nobody else. A veteran can mentally handle not playing well. A young unprepared rookie might not recover.

That is really close and a pretty damn ballsy send with Trout up next and Neto initially breaking back towards 2nd.
We all know Trout isn't clutch so the send is fine. Trout will either pop up or strike out.

Lackey was a high end number two guy IMO, very close to ace status.
For me a plethora of guys like Santana, saunders, etc can be more valuable than a sole ace.
He led the league in ERA and ERA+ one year. That's an ace to me. Other than that he was more of a 2 though.

It's really hard to dismiss Thorpe and Jackie, but I feel if Bo was around at either of their primes that he would've ran circles around both of them.
Robinson even won the LA city tournament for tennis in high school.

Herschel Walker was pretty athletic, completed in winter Olympics as well.
Eddie Alvarez medaled in both the summer and winter Olympics
Charlie Ward won the Heisman and had a long NBA career.
Bob Hayes won gold medals and later became a HOF football wide receiver
Wilt Chamberlain is also in the Volleyball Hall of Fame.

I wonder what negative affect if any by Angels DFA Moore with 6 weeks to go in season.
He probably appreciated being able to go to a contender.

People blame Boras and that he manipulates everything. He works for his clients to get them the best possible contract. He is very good at his job.
If I was a baseball player Boras would be my agent.

Tony Gwynn wasn't mentioned in this thread.
I'm pretty sure Lofton was the best at stealing bases for 8 seasons of his career.

Lou disagreed with me.
There was a Gwynn vs Abreu thread years ago.

I look at the number of ASG appearances and SS awards as the big difference between the two players.
Wonder if the HOF voters also took a solid look at that.
Abreu was consistency.
Vlad Sr. was incredible talents.
Abreu deserved more all star appearances.

Abreu should be in the HOF.
He is definitely borderline, I think there are a lot of players better who are not in.

Definitely Disarcina. The guy was not that good.

Is he the only person to ever win a college football championship and world series title?

Austin Meadows sure fell apart quick. He looked like a star for a little bit.

Didn't Terrence Gore win three straight?

He has to DH at this point, or move to left field.
