  1. I think he's got 61 WAR left in his career. The next two years with the most impact. Crunching some numbers he'll get about the same money if he signs an extension now or becomes a free agent in two years. Read more here: https://www.trout.la/trouts-next-contract/
  2. Jared Tims asked for nicknames for Matt Thaiss and Thunder Thaiss is going to be hard to pass up.
  3. That would be collusion and land them in a LOT of trouble.
  4. This location is kind of the LA version of Marlins Park. Too far South/West for anyone to get there.
  5. No qualifying offer penalty this year.
  6. Is there a place that archives the pre-season PECOTA along with the actual end of season record?
  7. I think the bigger question than what's the deal with the one year deals is "What's going on with the labor market?" Eppler is signing one year deals because he can get away with it. It really makes a ton of sense to do as many one year deals as possible. There's no such thing as a bad one year deal (as the saying goes). It keeps the roster flexible and it doesn't appear anyone really gets a discount by offering multiple years. Agents were furious about the tweaks to the CBA two years ago and it's clear why; they're getting hosed. I don't think there's collusion, I think the teams just have the deck stacked in their favor. They can make analytical arguments against handing out large contracts and they would probably hold up in court. Everyone is playing the hand that makes the most sense based on these rules.
  8. Robertson has a deal in place with the Phillies
  9. Thanks! Now that I see the official logo I can see the parameters they had to deal with that I didin't have to consider. Kid-friendly and NASA themed.
  10. On one hand the Tigers said they were firing Ausmus so they could hire someone more analytically inclined and hired . . . Ron Gardenhire. . . .who practically can't spell SABR. Not a real vote of confidence in Ausmus's understanding of probabilities. On the other hand: Clint Hurdle. Dude was awful with the Rockies and clearly didn't understand what was happening with the sport. But after getting fired he read up on it, got educated and relied on his stats & research department in Pittsburgh to help him make better choices. It could be that Ausmus has gotten caught up to speed in the last year. It could also be that Tiger's ownership was pushing a lot of the decision making onto Ausmus. We know they were doing it to Dombroski as evidenced by the Cabrera extension and the way they fired Dombroski for trading away free agents when they were out of it. I'm skeptical but I'll reserve judgment.
  11. Apparently if the Cubs don't advance Joe Maddon is on the hot seat. . . .
  12. Responding to Fletcher ^ I think this would be the bigger concern. Not the Players Assn but the other owners.
  13. "It breaks your heart. It is designed to break your heart. The game begins in spring, when everything else begins again, and it blossoms in the summer, filling the afternoons and evenings, and then as soon as the chill rains come, it stops and leaves you to face the fall alone."
  14. YOU GUYS! You're all missing the main story here. One of the Angels' main beat writers is speculating that the team will be interested in trading for an everyday 1B. Don't forget that Eppler loves to repolish old prospects and Myers might have an permanent riff with his manager. I think it's possible.
  15. Just a note, this isn't a Bleacher Report story. It's a Fancred story that Bleacher Report is aggregating.
  16. That's exactly why the Angels might get him. He's not worth that much to the Giants and they need to bolster their farm.
  17. Isn't he worth something like $80 Million a year based on WAR? There's so much extra value in him that $40/year doesn't seem at all unreasonable. He's possibly going to go down as the greatest player in history. You want him wearing your cap at all times. . . . .But I don't think it's going to be an issue of money. You've got to appeal to his comfort, and his desire to be a one team player. Move his entire family out here and give them all jobs, in-laws included.
  18. The Giants tried to throw money at the aging lineup this year and it didn't work. If they choose to rebuild what would you trade to get Bumgarner?
  19. The Angels just announced a Sosh Bobblehead night for the last night game of the season, September 29. I think this is pretty clear indication of the end of his tenure
  20. @Blarg, you sure know a lot about Guardians of the Galaxy. . . .
