  1. a player is considered a prospect until he is no longer a rookie. They chose Acuna over Ohtani because of the potential that Acuna presents over the length of his career. It's a projection not a objective measure of who is currently better.
  2. Just commenting so I can be the first to say "lasagna" or "pasta"
  3. I typed Mike Trout into the search bar and this came up
  4. Let's call him "the One True Shimpf" because he's known for the three outcomes.
  5. Pretty good interview with Simmons http://play.podtrac.com/espn-baseballtonightwithbusterolney/c.espnradio.com/s:J1X3L/audio/3484047/baseball_2018-03-27-105747.64k.mp3
  6. FWIW, I'm a podcaster and have a couple of different shows. http://thewrongpodcast.com will discuss baseball (and sports) at times. My other show is about foster parenting (so not at all relevant).
  7. I listen to Buster Olney's Baseball Tonight, ESPN Fantasy Focus Baseball, The Will Leitch Experience, Jonah Keri Podcast, Effectively Wild (in the offseason) and the Stat Cast Podcast. There is an Angels podcast called Obsessive Baseball Podcast. I really miss Joe Sheehan's.
  8. No one is saying there are no fielded balls, just fewer and fewer. Throw in all the leverage defensive shifting gives you the question remains -- Why spend on elite defensive players?
  9. It should be no surprise to anyone that this year in Spring Training the trend is continuing with a greater emphasis on walks, strikeouts and home runs. The three true outcomes. These are basically defensive neutralizers. Is it a good idea for a team to value defense as highly as the Angels are when the game is trending toward plays away from fielding?
  10. "Jabari Blash" is a strong entry in the "Best Baseball Name" contest
  11. Prince Fielder gets up on the 60 Day DL on the first day of Spring Training every year for the next couple of years.
  12. I've taken it a couple of times from Irvine. The one thing I don't like is how long you have to wait after the game for the train to leave.
  13. In 2015 the Angels and the Orioles made different organizational decisions. Both were coming off great seasons and hoping to return to the playoffs. The Orioles decided to double down and spend as big as possible and deplete their farm system (same thing in 2016). The Angels played it conservatively and accepted missing out on the playoffs for the next three years. The Angels have the hope of a future moving into 2018, the Orioles do not. This could entirely be explained by the extension Trout signed in 2014. The Angels knew they had time in the future, the Orioles knew they would never resign Machado and had to go for it immediately. It didn't work out for the Orioles. The tragedy of that will probably be based on whether it takes them more than 3-4 years to contend again. If the Angels contend this year and start bringing in talent next year it would seem they made the better decision. An 80-win Angels team would be a different story.
  14. Man the Kinsler hate is strong. He better not pop up when he's playing at home or the 10% of the crowd that is watching the game will go nuts.
  15. The Show Mr. Show Mr. Oh Oh Show Hey Oh Hip Hop Hooray Oh O'Tani Boy
  16. Dipoto has the gift of Woo. That makes me hope we present after he does.
  17. Being the only Japanese star on a team makes some sense to me. If you're in Japan and you see someone wearing a Seattle hat you assume they root for Ichiro, NY - Matsui, LA - Nomo, Texas - Darvish, etc. Every Angels logo in the country would be a symbol of Ohtani.
  18. and no criticism meant by the question. You're doing a fine job. I figure there's a lot of discussions about it.
