  4. I agree that he gets kudos for eating the Pujols and Upton contracts. It's the best thing for the on-field product.

  6. This is on top of what they make from ticket sales, local TV revenue, merchandise, Playoff TV, and MLB properties
  7. When the Padres sold off in the '90s they were trying to get their payroll below $38 million (inflation adjusted). This year there are three teams with payrolls less than $32 million despite receiving $110 million a year in revenue sharing.
  8. I just finished reading this book. Has anyone else read it? It's a fascinating look at the history of the business side of the game. The Players Association was able to run over the owners because they were unified and the owners had the wrong incentives and couldn't unify. Say what ever you will about Selig and Manafort, they have unified the owners to the benefit of the sport and the owner's pocket books. The best parts of the book were about Marvin Miller, the rest got a little long in the tooth for me but also explained with great clarity why the Padres sell off in the early '90s made sense.
  9. The Tampa Bay Rays have effectively destroyed ALL arguments that large budgets are the only way to have a competitive team. Over and over and over again they prove it's not the only way.
  10. Why do you prefer the owner with 3 yachts to have the money rather than the players? Who do you watch baseball games to see Arte or Trout? The money has been generated and now it's time to decide who gets it. All of the feelings about crying players can be equally applied to billionaire owners.
  11. The cap is a defacto salary cap, and it's not even meeting inflation, which means the actual buying power of their salaries is going down.
  12. We all thought he would spend if he didn't have to pay the tax. That doesn't appear to be the case. https://sports.yahoo.com/detroit-tigers-owner-christopher-ilitch-150951146.html?src=rss
  13. The thing is, position players don't typically cost that much. Starting pitchers are where everyone gives up prospects.
  14. Gibson has one year left at $7 million dollars https://www.spotrac.com/mlb/texas-rangers/kyle-gibson-11787/ Gallo has one more year of arbitration remaining https://www.spotrac.com/mlb/texas-rangers/joey-gallo-17565/ both have earned about 4 WAR this year.
  15. What would you pay the Rangers for Kyle Gibson and Joey Gallo? (Gallo has an additional year left) Edit: they both have a year left
  16. I tried this, and other countries, and it still didn't work. Is your MLB account set for Japan?
  17. anyone else having problems logging into MLB.tv over a VPN? I get logged out immediately.
  18. Who else is suspected? I've got some surprising pitching talent on my fantasy team I want to drop before they fall
  19. MLB.tv has a BUNCH of extra stuff aside from the video when you watch with a browser. Amazingly they have no way to remove any of that stuff. This link has an amazing solution for toggling the box score on and off.
