Finished S2 of The Bear on Hulu.  Just an excellent show.  It's really a story of people who might have been counted out finding purpose and joy again.  Last episode was pretty intense.  Just a well written and well acted show.  This show will surprise you with how good it is.

It really is fantastic writing, and the characters are incredibly believable and authentic. The only nitpick I really have is Richie’s character. For most of the show I think they write him a bit more over the top than they really need to. Like you could dial that character back about fifty percent and you’d still get the same desired effect while also creating a more realistic version of that one dude everyone knows.

I think he’s a funny guy but do crowd work guys get the same level of respect from comedians as guys who write an hours worth of material?

That’s a good question. I imagine opinions on crowd work comics vary depending upon who you ask in that world, though I wouldn’t be surprised if a lot of people look down on them a bit. That said, being really good at crowd work has to take a lot of talent and skill. I’m sure there are hacks that kinda give everyone else in the genre a bad name, but the high-end crowd work guys deserve plenty of respect for their craft.

I am 7 episodes in on The Bear, S2 on Hulu and I love this show.  E7 was far and away the best episode so far.  I love the characters.  They seem real.  They're flawed just like real people, but there is something redeeming about each one.  When I watch this show, it doesn't feel like I'm watching actors.  It feels like I'm peaking inside the lives of real people.  I highly recommend this show.

Just finished E7 of S2 and you’re not wrong man.

What the fuck is "weapons per capita?" Are you factoring in nunchucks and ninja stars?

I’d have to assume he’s kidding. Because we’re definitely #1 in guns per capita, with Yemen in second at less than half of us (they’re doing great btw). So unless everyone in Serbia with a gun also carries like two knives on them at all times (totally possible), and everyone in the US has given up on non-firearm weapons (we haven’t), I’d have to assume this can’t be true.

Also, gonna be real pissed if I find out everyone in Tajikistan carries a crossbow and two swords on them as a matter of custom.

you're talking like you know how any of the teams value and evaluate adell. you don't. neither do i. the difference is i'm not misrepresenting my opinion.

is it possible he turns into a decent major leaguer? uh, yeah. it's also possible he turns into an all star because he has the speed/power combo to do that and he's 24 years old, just now entering his prime. or he could bust.

my opinion is that other teams know he was rushed to the big leagues and he suffered for it. the angels are finally letting him get his proper development in and he's showing tremendous power and speed. he's putting up big numbers down there.

i find it very difficult to believe he's a throw in buy low guy. he's a legit prospect and i think he's likely to be traded at the deadline. i imagine, if so, the headlines wherever he goes will read something about his below avg mlb numbers and that he had very little minor league experience beforehand and since then has been putting up huge numbers in AAA. that's how an acquiring team is likely to frame that trade.

  6. The drama has continued to be sure. I followed @WicketMaiden’s advice, which immediately led to them paying all of my past due OT. From there they reduced my salary to what I made hourly x40 hours per week, which still represented a loss to me, so I complained some more. They eventually found that I should have had an annual review in October of last year (I didn’t), so they did it now. Got a 7% raise in base salary, which still leaves me making less in 2023 than I did in 2022. Quite bluntly told them that my number one priority now is finding another job.

After all that, my direct real work superior got our VP involved, and we had a nice conversation two weeks ago. Our company has grown a lot in recent years, and I’m one of the longest-tenured employees, so the VP and I know eachother a bit. Explained my situation to him, and he seemed receptive, but tentative.

It’s a bit shocking to me that they’re still fighting me over roughly 8k a year, when I’m in a position where my judgment calls regularly save them five or six figures in a given week. Like if I leave they’re nearly certain to make a few hundred k in “mistakes” because nobody is there to make sure that the plans that happen in the field on the fly make sense in the larger scope of things. Kind of a cutting off their nose to spite their face situation.

i still disagree. i don't think he's even remotely at the AAAA label yet. the angels have benefited from most of his AAA performance and his brief call ups to the majors this year have been effective.

btw, i'm not hyping for him. i'm giving my perspective on what i think his trade value may be.

He’s basically had a full season of major league playing time between 2020 and now, with a -1.6 WAR and a .623 OPS, along with sub-standard defense. Is it still possible he turns into a decent major league player? Sure. But he’s no longer a valuable commodity to other teams, as he’s never performed well at the major league level. He’s a buy low and hope he turns a corner sort of guy.

i don't agree with this. i think adell is going to have more trade value than people think. he's an enticing prospect that the angels clearly rushed. what's really helping his value is that they've finally let him get his polishing time in the minors and he's killing it. the k/bb % might undo some of that positivity for some clubs though.

I think your assessment is a bit of an overestimate. This may not be fair to Adell, but with the chances he’s been given teams pretty much have to consider him a classic “AAAA” player at this point. That will be the label until he proves he can hit consistently at the major league level

  9. Twitter is wild. Seems like the consensus is one of two things are happening:

    1. This is a real attack on the Russian military establishment by the Wagner group.

    Oooorrrrr….

    2. This is all part of a plan by Wagner group leadership and Putin aimed at drawing Ukraine into a large-scale attack on Russian forces, which will essentially be a trap.
