  1. How can you say that when we haven't even announced our annual 25m+ AAV contract for a position player over 30?
  2. Manfred is probably chortling with glee right now. He can now go back to picking at his toenails and sucking on lemons.
  3. Looking forward to the details of the sexual assault case in the next day or two.
  4. Guess they'll have to fire half the remaining scouts and slash the minor league housing and lunch budget to pay the settlement. Times are tough these days, gotta tighten the belt.
  5. Culture is definitely the differentiator. In places like the Netherlands and Portugal where you have a more laid back culture, you can take a more laissez-faire approach to drug regulation. The US is a pressure cooker and continuing to trend further in this direction, between the rising costs, increasing wealth inequality, toxic work culture, bad diets and health, among many other things. I imagine you encounter a lot more "hardcore" users in your work than you see in these other countries. Then on top of that, we've always taken a really immature approach to drugs. It's either (1) everything is banned and you get a decade-long sentence for possession of a gram of weed, or (2) free crack pipes for everyone. And then you have the corporate influence resulting in (3) weed/psychedelics are illegal, but we'll prescribe as many opiates and benzos as you want so you stay hooked. Just a bad situation all around.
  6. I'm in Chicago these days, but would love to visit one day. Place looks great (and no doubt very affordable compared to city living)!
  7. That way, he can tap into 4 different alumni networks for his job after baseball
  8. I feel like I've been reading these kinds of headlines ever since I've had an internet connection and yet here we are.
  9. If you want to pay $1m+ to live near a major city and deal with the taxes, traffic, pollution, etc, that's just a personal choice and I don't really see how that's a problem related to housing price inflation. There are still plenty of areas in the US with affordable house prices, and you could always explore options outside the US (since most jobs these days that pay well enough to support buying a house to begin with are gradually switching to remote anyway). I have a friend who bought a single floor condo in a walkup in Chicago for $770k. Another friend bought a house in the suburbs with 30% more square footage for $550k. Both work remote, and the guy in the suburbs does more activities in the city anyway, while the other just complains about noise and taxes while standing firm in his decision. Never understood this honestly.
  10. It's not even the politics, it's that the quality of the content and discourse just takes a nosedive once the platform becomes even remotely mainstream. So instead of insightful writing it just turns into daily power rankings and inane MJ vs Lebron debates. See ESPN
  11. It's dogshit for the same reason that virtually every semi-organized news site these days is dogshit. Frankly this and other independent boards/blogs have better information and quality of discourse than any of these "news" sites.
  12. Ha, coming from France, where half the population of Paris aren't citizens to begin with
  13. Even with a guy like Bundy who gets us one good year, he doesn't have the pedigree and skillset to maintain his success beyond that. I wouldn't want to be stuck with a guy like that for another 3 years. I could easily see both Syndergaard and Lorenzen having resurgent years, signing large multiyear deals with other teams next year, then falling flat on their face. I'd consider that a win for us.
  14. Given our track record with starting pitching and our refusal to tap into the high/medium end of the market to mitigate our downside risks, I have no problem only signing the guys we do sign to one year deals
