That's because you can have a guy like Luka, for example, cover for a ton of flaws and drag a roster of 2nd rounders and UDFA's to a WCF. Can't do that in baseball. Mavs have been completely butchering the draft for like 2 decades, made fools out of themselves in free agency for years (DeAndre Jordan debacle), have a meddling owner just like the Angels, had their own sexual harassment scandal, etc. But no one knows about that, because they did well this year. Also, there are at least 10 franchises in the NFL alone that are run more poorly than the Angels. Then in the NBA you get the Kings, Blazers, Nets, Knicks, 76ers, Mavs, etc. And in the NBA it's much easier to mask complete incompetence if you back into 1-2 stars through the draft.
