  1. I could live with Wheeler as our #1 if Odorizzi was the #2. Anything less will be a gigantic disappointment.
  2. I think I read that the system started during the year. Someone was struggling and got the ball rolling. Supposedly a vet player who was struggling at the plate early in the season and got the idea from his former team. People speculating it was Beltran.
  3. But saying teams that don’t win enough aren’t going to get Cole seems to suggest current playoff teams have an advantage. Most things he says are designed to get himself more money. The only ways I can make sense of that one is, 1) If you want him to sign with you, you'd better be prepared to spend on more players (a disproportionate amount of whom have Boras as an agent, or 2) If your team sucks, it’ll cost you more to sign him. Edit: I guess 3) would be countering the Yankees narrative that he doesn’t want to play in New York.
  4. This is the one thing I saw that Boras said today that concerns me. I don’t believe the Yankees or Dodgers or Astros will offer close to what we would be willing to offer in terms of money, so it doesn’t concern me that much. The playoff teams in general are either overextended or don’t have that much money to spend. I just wonder if Cole looks at our 90 losses and thinks, “They’re going nowhere.”
  5. Price is unmovable at present. Unless of course Boston just decided to eat the majority of the contract. Don’t see that happening.
  6. It would be ironic if Bregman won considering the news that just came out. Guarantee if that story came out pre-voting it would’ve cost him votes.
  7. This is a genuine issue. The Angels, for instance, are a team that needs multiple pitchers and can’t afford to wait on Cole. If he sits around waiting for a mythical figure that will never arrive, the teams with the deepest pockets will look elsewhere and he may well have to settle for less. Also, side note.
  8. They’re rebuilding anyway. If Kapler sucks, it won’t hurt their future.
  9. That doesn't sound like they're planning on him making the team out of Spring.
  10. I sincerely doubt he’d be willing to spend much if anything over 200m. I also don’t think Cole will take less out of some childhood desire to be a Yankee, certainly not 25-60 less.
  11. That’s correct. It also ups to 5m per if they win the WS, I believe.
  12. It really isn’t. His body is done. This is all but certain. No one needs an infielder bad enough to trade an actual asset for one without a working shoulder.
  13. Our state is cooler. Their politicians are better. Too bad we can’t mix and match.
  14. 1. Not a chance. 2. Not gonna happen. Even in that scenario, it wouldn’t be Trout. Judge came in 2nd. 3. The closest one to possible. Still won’t happen. He might get fined. 4. Draft pick loss, maybe. Ten years? 5. Yeah, that isn’t happening either.
  15. No, it doesn’t. It says ‘they believed that’. This is the team that said they weren’t spying on the Yankees with cameras. They were using cameras to see if the Yankees were spying on them. Until there’s strong evidence to the contrary, all we have records and evidence for is the Astros doing this. Could it be league wide? Sure. Still, the Astros are the name that always comes up. You can even find clear examples online of them doing it.
  16. If they were, it would be leaking. Why do you think the only team to come up publicly on this in recent years is the Astros? Either they’re way better at it than everyone else (which gets them noticed), or way more careless about it. Either way, I hope MLB drops the hammer on them.
  17. Best case, Cozart will be released or on the IL. He has negative value. He won’t be traded unless they’re paying someone to take him and eating 90% of his salary, and he won’t be playing for us.
  18. Ok, prospect people: When will Adell be called up? Spring Training? 3 weeks in? May-June? September?
  19. That matches reports from local guys. They’re “in”, but not really.
  20. Who said they’re sitting it out? In their minds, offering 5 years and 200 million isn’t sitting it out, even if there’s zero chance he’d accept. From Bob Klapisch:
  21. I’m reserving judgment on Stassi for now. Obviously the front office sees something they value in him.
