I was initially skeptical of how far this might go. Two things make me think I initially underestimated it: - The fact that they were allegedly doing it in the World Series (as well as since then). That matters because it extends after the sort of amnesty near the end of the 2017 regular season when Manfred warned stricter punishment was coming if they continued. - The fact that the GM's off-the-record are so upset about this. These aren't random fanboys online who are completely unrealistic about punishment. It's going to be a very interesting offseason.

Keep in mind that most of the secondary pitchers have qualifying offers attached. That’s effectively like losing prospect capital. They will also cost more. Just throwing that out there.

I think some method that incentivizes winning and/or disincentivizes losing should be implemented. I’m just highly skeptical that it will be.

I agree with him, generally, on this point, but I see no reason to expect this to change. The players would have to demand some sort of system in the new CBA that tries to disincentivize tanking. The reason it seems unlikely to me to happen is that teams tanking doesn’t hurt the market enough for players to give something big up in exchange in negotiations and the league owners have little incentive to do it themselves. The other issue is that with how smart front offices are these days, pretty much anything they could come up with to prevent tanking could probably be evaded if the team felt it was in their best interest to do so. They would figure something out. It’s inevtable.

Exactly. Players also voted him of the year. Between all that, unless he just gets an unlucky sampling, I think he wins. He deserves to, for sure.

Only if he’s the second guy and doesn’t cost too much. If he’s your number one guy, that’s one sad offseason.
