    Edmonds too.

Edmonds blew out his arm trying to impress scouts while pitching (he was a better pitcher than hitter in HS).  He continued to have issues through the first two years in the minors, so the Angels were trying to transition him to 1B just in case the arm issues continued.  But ppl forget he started more games at 1B than in CF as a.rookie.

Remember when Erstad came up and, with 4 OF’ers, they knew somebody would have to move to 1b. It ended up being Erstad and, if I recall (my memory is frequently foggy), Edmonds made it clear he wasn’t moving to 1b.

Which is you misunderstanding the situation. They only spent on the pen in the offseason, and all but one of those arms is “flipable” at the deadline.  They didn’t spend big with a goal to compete. They signed guys that could be moved or released.

The big trade chip at the deadline, if he keeps it up and we aren't close in the Wild Card, would be Anderson.  So far, he has tracked his 2022 season, which was outstanding.  He would be worth a good prospect if he keeps it up.  Maybe not a Top 10 premium prospect, but a very good prospect.  The question is will Arte sign off on trading anybody if we're still anywhere close in the Wild Card hunt.  We'll see.

In hindsight, I don't think the Adell base running thing was AS stupid as I originally thought. He was trying to make something happen on a backhand/long throw and needed a perfect throw from first. It was a poor decision but not as completely idiotic as I originally thought. I think that's why he keeps trying to steal (Wash implied it's been Jo's go) -- he wants to show he can contribute badly.

It was a good throw from the 1bman but he was out by 10 feet. And Trout was in the on deck circle.

Minasian has been particularly bad at building a bullpen the last 3+ years.  26th in WAR and 24th in WPA during that time.   Some of this has to do with the utter wasteland of arms that have come from the farm the last few years and why you'd draft all pitchers.  But even still, he hasn't really gotten much from that so far.

Getting Iglesias from the Reds his first offseason in a salary dump (traded Noe Ramirez) was a solid deal.  But we then salary dumped him to the Braves, unfortunately, where he is still pretty good.

There was a reason we signed him fairly quickly. He (wisely) jumped on an offer that appeared to be out of line with his track record.

My mistake....it seemed earlier, weird off season. The deal did seem like a reach, regardless of the injury. We'll see if he recovers and produces.
