Edmonds too.
Edmonds blew out his arm trying to impress scouts while pitching (he was a better pitcher than hitter in HS). He continued to have issues through the first two years in the minors, so the Angels were trying to transition him to 1B just in case the arm issues continued. But ppl forget he started more games at 1B than in CF as a.rookie.
Remember when Erstad came up and, with 4 OF’ers, they knew somebody would have to move to 1b. It ended up being Erstad and, if I recall (my memory is frequently foggy), Edmonds made it clear he wasn’t moving to 1b.

You seem to be under the impression that Rendon is going to be available.
No word on a diagnosis is probably not a good sign.

Which is you misunderstanding the situation. They only spent on the pen in the offseason, and all but one of those arms is “flipable” at the deadline. They didn’t spend big with a goal to compete. They signed guys that could be moved or released.
The big trade chip at the deadline, if he keeps it up and we aren't close in the Wild Card, would be Anderson. So far, he has tracked his 2022 season, which was outstanding. He would be worth a good prospect if he keeps it up. Maybe not a Top 10 premium prospect, but a very good prospect. The question is will Arte sign off on trading anybody if we're still anywhere close in the Wild Card hunt. We'll see.

best case scenario is that he's back (and effective) by the end of next season.
And counting on any production next year wouldn't be wise. That would be a bonus.

Dude finally looks like his head is slowing the game down to where his talent can take over. Its almost criminal that Hicks has been playing over him.
He’s still prone to boneheaded base running blunders but at this rate, you have to play him. Every day.

And defense might cost them yet another game.
The opposite of what the expectation was with Wash.

Good thing the Angels worked so hard on infield defense with the new regime
Rengifo is worse this year than he’s ever been.

This team is truly terrible offensively.

Putting all the drama aside, what seems clear is he is an aging guy who can’t stay healthy. That is rather obvious. It happens to over 30 types.

Probably too early to make a trade of any consequence but could there be an INF’er available on a smaller deal?

You knew Rendon was on a borrowed time. And you knew Perry needed to sign an INF’er this winter. Calling Adrianza.

In hindsight, I don't think the Adell base running thing was AS stupid as I originally thought. He was trying to make something happen on a backhand/long throw and needed a perfect throw from first. It was a poor decision but not as completely idiotic as I originally thought. I think that's why he keeps trying to steal (Wash implied it's been Jo's go) -- he wants to show he can contribute badly.
It was a good throw from the 1bman but he was out by 10 feet. And Trout was in the on deck circle.

Anderson has to be the biggest surprise of the season
I guess it sounds like I’m throwing in the towel already but, if he keeps it up, he could be a pretty valuable trade chip in July.

I’m encouraged that Rendon got to 3rd without getting hurt.

Want to see him make fewer mistakes? Play Hicks less -- he will learn. Seeing him in a game over Hicks today with a lefty on the mound was surprising.
He may always make some mistakes, not great instincts, but there is only one way to find out what he can do. Play him, regularly.

did Adell run through a stop sign?
Not sure. Somebody messed up, that wasn’t close.

Not great base running.

Surely there's a better option in AA or AAA than Canning.
Rosenberg or Wantz....that's about it...

Minasian has been particularly bad at building a bullpen the last 3+ years. 26th in WAR and 24th in WPA during that time. Some of this has to do with the utter wasteland of arms that have come from the farm the last few years and why you'd draft all pitchers. But even still, he hasn't really gotten much from that so far.
Getting Iglesias from the Reds his first offseason in a salary dump (traded Noe Ramirez) was a solid deal. But we then salary dumped him to the Braves, unfortunately, where he is still pretty good.

Almost time for the window or aisle seat convo with Schanuel
It’s not like there is risk to send him down. It can’t hurt, maybe it helps.

There was a reason we signed him fairly quickly. He (wisely) jumped on an offer that appeared to be out of line with his track record.
My mistake....it seemed earlier, weird off season. The deal did seem like a reach, regardless of the injury. We'll see if he recovers and produces.
Rendon has high grade partial hamstring tear, no timetable but expects lengthy recovery

He might retire but he won’t give up any of his money. Stasburg did that.
