  1. In 2002 we stunk up the place in the opener, losing to Cleveland 6-0. Then we won the World Series.
  2. In this case, the nickname fits. 29.1 innings 35 SO 2 BB 3-0 record Could be a long night. http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/t/tanakma01.shtml
  3. LOL, Braun is surprised that it doesn't happen more often. Nothing about stopping this idiotic practice. http://www.jsonline.com/sports/ryan-brauns-practice-swing-injures-jean-segura-b99256958z1-256851511.html Oh, and he exited the game in the 9th inning with an injury himself.
  4. It's not good, but it could have been much worse. Thankfully, he had his helmet on. He still got his head cut open. update: Brewers manager Ron Roenicke updated reporters on Segura's status after the game. "No concussion, no fracture but he was laid open pretty good. So a plastic surgeon stitched him up," Roenicke said. "He'll have some swelling tomorrow, I'm sure, so we'll see how quickly it goes down and how many days (out of the lineup) it's going to be." http://espn.go.com/mlb/story/_/id/10845163/jean-segura-milwaukee-brewers-leaves-game-getting-hit-teammate-ryan-braun-bat
  5. Idiotic to be swinging the bat around like that on the dugout steps. Someone has to tell him to stop that.
  6. Houston beats Oakland, 7-6, so the Angels do not lose a game in the standings. Jerome Williams blows the save but gets the win, as the Astros score four runs in the 8th inning.
  7. Ramirez's hand is bandaged and he's out of the game and in the clubhouse. It appears he hurt his hand swinging the bat.
  8. Speaking of injuries in the dugout, something weird just happened to Hanley Ramirez as he entered the dugout after grounding out. Vin Scully is talking about it right now. He injured his hand somehow, and it doesn't look good. They're working on him now, it's the right thumb.
  9. Okay, thanks for that. I learned a new stat today! His tOPS still correlates directly to his regular OPS, so the point still holds (I think). But it's clear that many other hitters also do worse in the late innings, so my original point was probably not all that relevant.
  10. Howie in the 8th and 9th innings has OPS+ of 74 and 76 respectively, compared to his overall career OPS+ of 107. These are his worst two innings for offense. I'll try to narrow that down for RISP from inning 5 on.
  11. Yeah, you're right about the walks. Not too bad. I want to see where that OPS is at the end of May before I jump on the Cowgill bandwagon. Right now he's playing far above his career averages. I do like his intensity and obvious desire to play the game. That's always a plus in my book.
  12. Why couldn't the Angels training staff figure this out back then??
  13. Sean Burnett is going to return soon and put an end to all that hate!
  14. Angels record on April 23, 2002: 6-14, 10.5 back in the AL West Next four weeks: 21 wins, 3 losses. Angels record on May 22: 27-17, 1.5 games back
