2001 Angels…A 3-run double by the Rangers' Ruben Mateo in our home opener in the first inning, and it was downhill from there... 75 wins, 87 losses, 3rd place, finished 41 games back...lost 19 of our final 21 games. 2000 Angels....82-80, 3rd place, finished 9.5 games back….only 4 games back as late as Sept. 1st....favorite game, Aug. 18 at Yankee Stadium, Darin Erstad wins it in the 11th inning with a solo home run. 1999 Angels...70 wins, 92 losses, 4th place, finished 25 games behind....went 16-38 in July/August, including a stretch of 4-23 from July 16 to Aug. 13, and another stretch of 1-11 from Aug. 24 to Sept. 5…oddly enough, won 9 of our final 12 games. 1998 Angels...85-77, 2nd place, finished 3 games back...tied for first place on Sept. 20, then got swept by Texas by scores of 9-1, 9-1, and 7-1….Rangers win division. 1997 Angels...84-78, 2nd place, finished 6 games back...tied for first place on Aug. 15, then went 15-22 for the remainder of the season. 1996 Angels...70-91, 4th place, finished 19.5 games behind...7-game losing streak in Sept., finished 5-13. 1995 Angels…Luis Sojo, Randy Johnson….nothing more needs to be said. 1994 Angels….47-68 (strike shortened season), 4th place, finished 5.5 games back….lost 14 of our final 19 games...Kenny Rogers of Texas pitched a perfect game against us on July 28. 1993 Angels...71-91, 5th place (7 teams in West Division), finished 23 games back...two games behind at the All-star break, then went 28-48 in 2nd half of season. 1992 Angels...72-90, 5th place, finished 24 games back...18 games behind at the All-Star break...went 3-15 at one point, then later went 2-17. In those latter 19 games, we scored a total of 41 runs...scored only 579 runs for the season while allowing 679. 1991 Angels...81-81, 7th place, finished 14 games back….tied for first on July 2, then went 9-25 over the next 34 games to find ourselves 14 games behind on August 12. 1990 Angels...80-82, 4th place, finished 23 games back...0.5 games back on April 15, then went 6-17 to fall 12 games behind on May 12. 1989 Angels...91-71, 3rd place...finished 8 games back....only 2.5 games behind on Sept. 20, then lost 8 of our final 10 games, including a 4-game sweep by Cleveland. 1988 Angels...75-87, 4th place, finished 29 games back...lost 18 of our final 20 games, including the last 12 in a row. 1987 Angels...75-87, 6th place, finished 10 games back....Tied for first on May 12, only to go 3-13 and fall 7.5 back on May 31…..only 3 games back on Aug. 31, then went 2-10 to fall 8.5 games behind on Sept. 14.
