  1. I laughed at that. Back in my time the Hospital Corpsmen were all guys of course. It's scary what some of us did to get our 1st job. At about 12 I wore my best clothes and marched into a clothing store and landed a big shot job making about $4.00 a day running errands, sweeping and opening boxes. By the time I was 17 I was the assistant manager. I was grateful for that job. Made enough to buy my clothes for school, snacks, then saved enough for a junk car. I learned more from that job just watching and getting the chance to work. Little kids don't get that chance anymore. Well, my neice does but that's different.
  2. This thing is scaring the life out of people. In so many ways it's changing our levels of comfort. We all know people that were already hurting because of this stinky economy. Now they can't be sure of getting competent medical care even if they've done the right things and have good insurance. Last month my wife fell and broke her wrist. Yep, we had no choice we headed to the emergency room at 1:30 in the morning First question? Insurance papers please. Yes. To be honest they gave us 1st class attention. The next day we had to wait 4 hours but we saw a 1st rate Dr we didn't even know. Yep they wanted insurance before we even got in the door. Then the next day surgery about 5 hours at the hospital. Thank God we have pretty good insurance, Blue Cross approved everything the 1st day. The bills keep rolling in totaling about $30,000. that without an overnight stay. The way the game is played they wrote off about $23,000. Blue Cross paid about $5,000. So I think I will pay about $2,000 out of pocket. I hope I met my deductible because we have therapy next. I don't even know what I am saying. I guess I'm grateful we had insurance. It's scaring my wife something terrible that we will lose it now. We've both paid in over 30 years of our working lives both been healthy til now. Neither of us feel secure anymore knowing what this government is doing to people's security. I can't imagine what people are going thru that get billed for $30,000 or perhaps over a hundred thousand for major incidents. I just shake my head when I hear the nighmare stories of people seriously ill losing their insurance over this. Thanks for listening to my rant sorry guys.
  3. I was just reading with interest everyones comments. I know the McD workers are grateful for any kind of job in our little town. If they advertised any opening you'd have hundred line up to apply. This sounds weird but I have a guy in my warehouse making $10.00 an hour putting together chairs and tables. He was making around $80,000. as a manager two years ago in one of our factories that closed. He's a great guy and a heck of a worker. At his age in our town there is no way he will ever get a good job again. The jobs just aren't here anymore. Some people simply have to move to where the jobs are. He was just desperate to have any work at all. I told him when he started it wasn't much of a job and he wouldn't like it but he does. I have to run him off to close.
  4. I've heard rumors that Wal-Mart executives are rushing diplomats over to mediate the crisis.
  5. It's still hard to accept but I still think that pathetic loser did it, and alone. As much as I want to condemn LBJ or Castro I've just come to believe Oswalt did it alone. I watched documentary after documentary but that's the only one that matches up. So much damage was done by LBJ that I still want to smack a TV when his image pops up.
  6. You guys are way too funny. I needed a big laugh tonight. I just showed this to my little niece and told her this was my old school mascot. Priceless expression.
  7. Loved it. If it were only that easy to take care of this mess they've caused.
  8. When we are surrounded by people that are just suffering it makes life miserable for all of us. The scary thing is that things are rapidly getting worse. As fewer and fewer people are in the work force they are surviving anyway they can. Food stamps, disability, multiple part time jobs etc. If it's a choice of feeding their family is an even bigger crime wave on the way?
  9. Perhaps someone has pointed out the hypocrisy of John Kerry promoting military action in that part of the world. I don't see any good guys and see no way for this to turn out well. This is some scary stuff. From almost everyone I know that has been over there, they think it's insane to mess with those people. John Kerry is the one that threw Vietnam vets under the bus after he gathered up all his bogus medals over there in his 3 month tour. I still remember his rant to congress against war. Now he's wealthy and powerful so it's ok with him.
  10. I know it was the 1st year because the Yanks and Angels were on the game of the week so often with the home run thing going on. I liked the Angels because of lil Albie Pearson and big Steve Bilko and crew. I still have the lineup in my head darn it. What a fun team to watch especially in that tiny ballpark. Not many little kids would wait for the afternoon paper to get the box scores from the West coast but I had to know. Back then I knew every players bio, left or right handed, hometown, age and history. Fun times actually. And yep, I was the one that even wore Halos caps thru High School, college and my military years. Not many commanding officers appreciated that, but they got over it. I suspect I could retire on my investments in the Angels.
  11. A star post I just hope and pray he finds a hobby the rest of the way.
  12. Glad my cell phone is in my truck or they would hear me swearing daily when all these scandals are revealed.
  13. I guess I am in bad trouble. I have photos in my Verizon account of me wearing an American flag T-shirt with the provocative words I love America. Even worse I sometimes wear a ball cap that says proudly served River Rats Mekong Delta 1968. I suspect one even has me carrying a flag that said "Don't tread on me" in front of my congressman's office when he voted to squander my grandkids future earnings. Big Brother has a long memory and reaches far. Pondering what a attorney will cost.
  14. I'm thinking if we called sauerkraut coleslaw and put it on the side it might poll better. Just a thought.
  15. I've been too weirded out with all these events/scandals suddenly reported to even comment. This stuff has gone on for years but the media has been lacking in the intestinal fortitude to inform us peasant classes. Good grief if they just told the truth they wouldn't have to covers up with newer and snappier lies. Oops maybe they'd be in trouble. NEVER MIND.
  16. I watch the network news quite a bit and didn't seemuch if any coverage of this story. They should be ashamed for not covering this. It's heartbreaking at their choice of news to spoon feed us.
  17. I'm prepared to march on congress with a million balloon fans if they mess with us. They've gone too far. I'm mad as hell and not going to take it anymore.
  18. I'm supposed to be a big tough guy but I'm crying right now at that girls pain. So many people would have happily adopted that child and given it a wonderfulchance in life. Yep that is a painful read.
  19. Beside a river with a mountain for a back yard in McMinnville Tenn. Yep ESPN and now Internet have been a blessing.
  20. I know this tells my age but it's true. During the expansion when the Angels came into being the Yanks had Mantle and Maris going at it big time. The Angels seemed to be on TV constantly that year with them and I started pulling for the underdog. They hit the heck out of the ball and I loved the zany characters on the team. Albie Pearson, Steve Bilko Leon Wagner etc. I got an Angels cap and schoolmates testified that I always wore it to school which was rare back then. Then when I was stationed out there I got to see a bunch of games live. I plan some of my vacations around them playing on the East coast. The Halos have cost me a bunch of money:) When we won the big one in 2002 the media tracked me down for an interview because I was the Angels fan in town.
  21. I wasn't sure when this was coming out but I was just re reading "Jackie Robinson" a Biography by Arnold Rampersad last week. Considering his injuries he had a remarkable career. What an athlete. I wouldn't miss this movie for anything. A bit of trivia. I drove over to Chattanooga when this was being filmed last year. Some shots were at old "Engel" stadium, the old home of the Chattanooga Lookouts. I could have been an extra but sadly had to drive back home. I think it would even paid $60. a day or so. win win Wish I would have done it now.
  22. I naively invested in silver and gold coins. I should have invested in politicians.
  23. Now that was a tough lady. It was great for our nation to have a good friend like that during those trying times. RIP
