khouse got a reaction from Angel Oracle in Buck Showalter interested in Angels managerial job
He's likely thinking that sunny California is preferable to the opportunities elsewhere. Plus there's not many other jobs where there's only 2 guys he would have to impress & where, walking in, he enters as the most knowledgeable one in the room.

Nothing like grabbing the first guy fired.

I'm sure some players are tired of changes every year. We will see when Ohtani and others ask to leave.

Then not trading Ohtani in 2022 maybe the worst decision in baseball history

This just isn’t true. A lot of you guys are saying this but it’s based on not extending the manager none of us wanted extended and because the AGM was let go mutually. This is another overblown belief.

Even though he didn’t have the best group, he still didn’t get the best he could’ve out of them.
Overusing Bachman to the point of injury risk and Wantz throwing 40+ pitches are two examples of not putting his pitchers into positions to succeed.

It's been an issue for every Manager/GM relationship this club has had for nearly two decades.

Yep I didn’t even last more than a few games on savant. Not to mention back to back nights of Thaiss playing positions he’d never played before and him making errors in both games costing us those games.
I’ve said this many times that I thought Maddon was a more personable Scioscia, then I watched him manage and I feel awful for disparaging Sosh like that.

It pains me that you’re quoting my story but instead of quoting my story (which is published on here for free), you’re using the link of the clowns who steal all of my stories.

the entire industry knows otherwise even if those are the words out of Arte's mouth.  They basically put spies in the dugout at the end of the season.  Do you think Finley and Salmon were Perry's choice to do that?
Minasian has been neutered.  He got Tamin and extra payroll for a year and it was a hot mess.
And that's the thing.  A couple of mistakes and the whole strategy falls apart yet it's what every GM is tasked with for this org.  Zero margin for error followed by getting your nuts clipped.

the reason the job isn't desirable isn't because the team is bad.  It's because the Angels are unwilling to hand over the keys and give that one person the autonomy to do what the feel needs to be done no matter what that is.
All the playoff teams have done variations of something similar to get where they are.   The Angels are doing some that even though it's still the cliff's notes version.
The only way the job becomes more desirable is autonomy.  It's really what any GM worth their salt would want.

Perhaps, but is it gonna be any better to keep him for another year and hire a new GM in the 2024 offseason?
If Perry isn’t the guy, you should cut him now. Candidates aren’t gonna go from not wanting the job now to wanting it a year from now because Arte gave Perry another year.
If anything, the job is less desirable a year from now because a new manager will already be in place and the new GM wouldn’t be able to pick their own manager.

I think it’s pretty clear that Arte pushed Perry to go all in. It’s never been in Arte’s MO to sell off pieces.
Where you can fault Perry is that his acquisitions weren’t good. I doubt Arte was in there pounding the table specifically for Giolito, Grichuk, Escobar, Cron, etc.

Remember how people believed Dombrowski was a bad fit because he broke teams and some of us argued he was one of the best ever at building them???  Dude didn't see a fall off until his owner got old and wanted to win now, and now he's got Philly looking like world beaters with a solid farm system after the previous regime destroyed the farm and failed to get over .500.
His lone demand everywhere he's been.... Total control.

Much more significant without a doubt but very intriguing as well. As, if course, there has to be a reason behind his ouster. I mean...was this an Arte dictate or was it decision between the both of them? If it was the former...will the firing of his right hand guy lead to Perry resigning? Was the move made because Tamin was, somehow, responsible for the decision/s which led to the regression of the pitching staff this season or the team's poor trade targets? Or was he (and possibly others to come) being scapegoated by Perry to, perhaps, save his own skin? With more info yet to come it might be good to have your popcorn on standby...

If Arte is forcing out Perry’s guys and Perry doesn't like, Perry should quit now.
If I’m looking to hire Minasian in the future, I respect him more if he stepped down when he was impeded than if he rode it out while the owner was tearing things apart.
