I think the Angels go the budget route on any lineup needs.

2B: Rengifo/Barreto, possibly Jones if he takes a big step forward early in the year. At most they'll sign a one-year rental and/or journeyman infielder type.

RF: Ward seems like a solid option until Adell/Marsh are ready. At most the Angels sign a 4OF/platoon type.

Catcher: Stassi seems solid, Bemboom a decent 3rd option to have, so they might sign a person to platoon with Stassi.

So we're talking about, at most, three platoon/bench types. I suppose there's a chance that they trade Rengifo or Ward or Marsh in a package for a pitcher, and then sign a better player to man 2B or RF, but those are needs created by hypotheticals. Right now they only need, at most, two or three bench players to provide depth and insurance.

For 2B I like free agent Ceasar Hernandez on a 1 year deal. 275 to 280 BA and a 350 OBP. He signed a 1 year deal with Cleveland last winter.

I say you enter this off-season with the plan of putting Ward in RF, Walsh at 1B, Simmons at SS, Fletcher at 2B, Ohtani and Pujols platoon at DH, Canning, Barria and Ohtani in the rotation, Adell and Marsh in AAA and Detmers and Jordyn Adams in AA.

If you can work from that basic premise, you can correctly identify, target, pursue and hopefully bring in the difference making pitching that's necessary.

You cannot count on Ohtani in rotation he would be a big plus but plan starters without him. He needs lot of work on his hitting. You forgot about Bundy.

Right.  So for me, the key think is to go all-out and try to sign Bauer.  Signing Bauer will create a cascade effect on our rotation, and our backend of the rotation will then become Canning and Barria, which should be significantly better than what we're seeing now.

Sandoval and Suarez can serve as depth in AAA, as they work on their mechanics and try to generate better results.

Let's not get our hopes up for Bauer as I do not belief he's signing with halos. Wants to be with a team that competes every year and right now that's not the Angels.

I'm as big a baseball fan as there is but I'm really getting fed up with all these stupid changes Manfred has proposed. I feel like there is going to come a point where I look at the league and don't see all that much left from what drew me to the sport in the first place.

You love this game not just for playoffs but the feel of walking into a stadium, before a game. Sound of the ball hitting the bat, the DP to get you out of an inning. Nothing like this game no clock the player drafted in the 37th round becoming your hero. This game is different the hope it brings as you say today my team starts a 10 game winning streak. A player like David Fletcher who plays hard and everywhere like it was little league again. Changes happen but 90 feet between bases been same from the start, nothing like this game been part of my life for over 65 years. Your team will frustrate you to no end but come game time next day you will be watching and hoping. Enjoy this game.

I think it's clear that writing off Ward after his previous struggles was a bit premature. He turned it around after moving off of catcher, then he struggled twice at the major league level while the team has been trying to find a position for him. He might be old for a prospect but his high minors / MLB experience is still limited.

I think this was probably his last chance and, at least right now, he's making the most of it. He's not going to have enough AB's the rest of the way for us to figure out what type of player he's become but he's played himself onto the team next year I think.

I do not believe this was his last chance. Angels and Ward have added value to his game by positions he has played. Plus being a third string catcher or emergency catcher. Like Walsh, Ward has good numbers in minors. Hard to be productive first and even second time around. Players need to know they are going to be in lineup everyday. I feel same will happen to Adell next year or in 2022.

an .800 ops with about 20-25 hr would be great.  Especially considering he's dirt cheap.  And he also plays very good 1b defense.

I am most interested to see how Walsh adjusts next because they're gonna stop throwing him strikes at some point.  He's shown the ability to walk in the minors so he should be fine.

Batting in front of Trout helps him. maybe if Adell batted in front never mind.

Weren't you the one that wanted Adell to start this season as the starting Rf? what changed? lol. Just kidding.

Even with how awful Adell has played, I still see him be the starting Rf to atleast be the starting Rf.

But if Ward can repeat, he'll be getting his at bats. I actually think this role Fits Ward perfectly. If he can Be Constant he could be a starter and if Adell struggles could over take him.

Yes I was pushing for Adell and now we see he is not ready. Not giving up on Adell but Ward's play has earned him more playing time.

I'm not sure he is really the answer, but it's encouraging that he's drawing walks and not K'ing as much.  Just like Walsh, he's had a very nice September.

Ideally, I'd like to see Ward become one of those super utility type players, who can play RF, LF, 1B, and 3B.  With Rendon at 3rd and Walsh/Pujols at 1B, he probably won't get many reps there, but he seems like he'd be an ideal super utility player.

He can also fill in as third catcher in an emergency

Really stoked to see this.  Obviously just a small sample size, but given it's accompanied with mechanical adjustments, we can be cautiously optimistic that he'll be our 1B moving forward.  He won't continue to hit like this, but if he can be an 800-850 OPS type 1B, with an acceptable level of Ks, then we should have a solid lineup piece for years.

Now, if we can somehow get Ohtani back on track, then we should have a really solid top 5 next year - Fletcher, Walsh, Trout, Rendon, Ohtani.

Ohtani a big factor for 2021 need him to get on track. Do not forget Justin Upton turn around could give us 6 solid in lineup.

Except the Marlins offered more than $240 million.  So no, they weren’t bidding against themselves and yes it ended up being an awful signing.  If it lead to the TV deal, which has been speculated, then it was a good deal, because it gave them the financial flexibility to sign Trout’s two deals and Rendon.

I think they still think they get TV deal and I'm sure Albert has helped Trout grow as a player. Looking back signing Tori Hunter would have cost so much less and he could have been mentor for Trout. It has been a bad stretch since Pujols signing and not all blame goes on him. He will be here next year showing up in spring in great shape still hungry to win as another year will be wasted.
