The Official 2020 MLB Trade Deadline Hot Stove Thread
Angels in 2030 replied to mmc's topic in LA Angels | MLB Daily
We should be planning to build around our young SPs like Detmer (& Chris Rodriguez...hopefully), not trading them away. This team is not 1-2 players away from contending. -
Playing for Next Year and Beyond - Some Ideas
Angels in 2030 replied to Angelsjunky's topic in LA Angels | MLB Daily
I do believe Bauer when he says he will do one year annual deals. That guy is wired differently and beats to his own drum. He's going to do that. So while that sounds good for a team like the Angels in that you don't have to lock a guy up for 6-10 years, it means you will overpay for being one year. That means the big spending rich teams that are true title contenders will even more so be after him. I can't see him going to the Yanks due to Cole, but the Dodgers seem perfect since they love that concept of big $$$ with short-term -- how much better can you get than one year of ST. There's also the issue of losing a draft pick for a guy around just one year (again, not a good thing for a team like the rebuilding Angels trying to build up the farm). The FA just is not an option. They need to commit to building the P from within. Meanwhile continue to try to find some clean peanuts and reclamation projects for the current squad. Any significant trades need to be for SPs that are on the rise (prospect for prospect) or guys in their 1-3rd season (costly in terms of prospect capital). -

Bring on TBA!!!! -
i'm not fully following every team in BB like i used to do. So i'm aware of mostly just the Angels and the AL west. But serious question, is there any team that has a worst SP staff than the Angels? i don't mean stats wise necessarily. I mean everything -- stats, potential, Aces, depth, ready to step in youngsters, etc. I would hazard a guess that the Angels, if not the worst, have to be bottom 5. At least crappy teams can dream upon their studly SP farm prospects. It's been forever it seems that we developed a consistent top 3 rotation SP. Is there truly a guy in our farm system now that has shown, performance + health, will be one eventually? Heck, for the next 5 years, we are hoping for a guy who can't stay healthy nor has shown for more than a handful of starts that he can be a true SP in MLB (Othani)......and a newly drafted guy who hasn't pitched as a pro yet (Detmer)....a single A guy who has had very bad back problems (Chris Rodriguez).....and a reclamation project (Bundy). Maybe some other random low A guys. That's sad.

If only our players were irresponsible and went to strip clubs and casinos.....got CV and had games postponed. We'd be .500 and right in the thick of the playoff race! -
Imagine if we didn't have this King Kong version of Bundy.....how much worse the team would be. We'd probably have two less wins and be even more boring/miserable.
-
That would basically be my three items. Regarding #2, i'd especially beef up the Int'l side too and commit big-time to such. Otherwise, i'd rebuild and end this weird trying to win in Trouts prime thing that is NOT working. We will not annually contend for playoffs+ until we build a strong farm system that can consistently bring guys up who can actually play and make an impact. Who cares about alienating the fans with a rebuild -- the fan attendance has been atrocious this year anyway ().
-
I tend to agree with you, ALFan, about the trade market. Then again, who knows. Maybe teams will go for it with this weird setup and easy way to get into playoffs. Plus less teams selling because more are still within range to not be sellers. It’s a very interesting thing to think about. We might be better continuing to suck and be one of the small amount of sellers. It’s obvious that We’re not close to being a team that can win a couple playoff series as currently constructed.
-
Hopefully he doesn't end up like Matthew Boyd. Tigers really f-ed up not selling high on him last year. Went into tank the 2nd half (5.51 ERA post-ASB)....was an even bigger drop off post June 2019. So far this year, he's even worse (10.24 ERA -- i think that is not good). I say new the Bundy is here to stay, and he won't go Boyd on us.

If they are our douche, then you roll with it and enjoy. Otherwise, they are simply a douche. That’s the difference -

18 games in sans cheating -: Altuve -- 187/265/333/598 Springer -- 188/328/396/724 Bregman -- 250/365/500/865 Gurriel -- 254/341/451/792 Reddick -- 281/352/438/790 Correa -- (906 OPS) still be cheating Some have improved lately, but still a decent drop from their 2017-2019 stats. Altuve somehow is actually getting worse (-0.4 WAR and 63 OPS+) -
again, Kay isn't being charged with murder. I'm not sure you realize that or not. But he did do something illegal. He may end up getting just a fine or probation. But to think the local prosecutors would not charge him for the crime he committed (illegal drug distribution, etc.) seems bizarre. They pretty much have to do so. How you fail to see that is odd. I person feel like highways in remote areas should have a higher speed limit -- but I realize that a cop is going to have to give me a ticket when I get caught going 90 heading to Vegas on 15 (doesn't matter my own personal belief).

Agreed. Using that same RG logic, you could say something equally ridiculous like: if it were not for Kay, Skaggs would have died sooner because Skaggs would have gotten his drugs from a less reliable drug dealer and overdosed earlier. Excuses versus personal responsibility -- this mentality is where the US is really going downhill the past decade or so imho.
