i have no problem with rule changes just for this bizarre 60 game season. So the runner rule is fine imo. If one game goes like 15-18 innings, that can wreak a teams pitching staff for a week and be a huge difference maker in a 60 game season. I agree with Nate though that a better option would be play one extra inning and allow for ties. I like the fun of shoot-outs for hockey; but what i don't like is how that random item for the extra point can, & usually does, greatly determine you make the playoffs and seeding. I worry that'll happen here too -- some team might get say 5 extra inning games and get lucky with a random 5-0 record....which can easily be the difference between playoffs or not (even just 2-3 games). I hate the idea of ties and the runner thing in a normal season.

How many MLB players will opt out for 2020
Angels in 2030 replied to Angels 1961's topic in LA Angels | MLB Daily
I totally understand vets players at the end of their career who already made millions to opt out -- basically retire. I probably would. Why bother at this point in your career if you've made millions and even more so if you've already won a ring....to play part time as a roster vet. Just stay at your huge house, pool and hang with your kids. Guys under 30 -- no way dude, i'm playing. BTW, not sure if i saw it discussed somewhere else, but i heard Buster Olney say that he put's the odds of finishing the 2020 at 0%....and simply starting at 5. What-the-what?!?! I can understand the pessimism about finishing due to it being in late Fall and flu/cold season starting combined with CV19. 0% seems very pessimistic. But only 5% for starting a month from now seems extreme (i could understand 40-65% range). Beyond just baseball, i sure as heck hope his predictions are way, way off. -

Detroit signs a guy. So now down to two teams left without a signing - TB and Angels. Just stating a fact and updating - I’m not making a commentary either way. -
This could be the great equalizer for the angels. We know we always will have them. Now all the other teams can join in our annual pain and misery. lol.

The lack of minor league action really hurts the angels here. Most of our top prospects are so young and raw -- they don't yet have the hype yet nor the results. The guys that are closer to ML ready and do have the hype (Adell, Marsh, Sandoval, Detmers), we desperately need to feed the current team within the next 0-1 years. Any trade for a good pitcher will either take away from those needed current guys or require too many of our really younger guys. So many of our young guys likely would have made a good jump this year in performance and rankings.

The Angels went 34-26 over a 60-game stretch in 2019

And now, for the glass half-empty: That just shows how horrible we were for the larger sample 102 games last year: 38-64......that's bad, real bad. -
Where are the flying cars? I'm pretty sure we'll have those by 2040-2050. It does look good and the idea of bars, resteraunts, etc. all right there to hang out before/after/during games is cool. But honestly, as a 50 year old whose two boys have zero interest in baseball, it's almost meaningless to me considering by the time it's done i'll either be dead or waiting to die in one of the OC's Covid-19 SNF death traps.

Lost my dad to cancer (among other things - drank a lot before getting sober last 10+ years). Hardest working dude. Retired from a manual labor job and eventually worked Angels games to keep busy and around the games. I can recall like yesterday being on phone with him as Erstad makes that catch in 2002 and going crazy. Where does the time go ......

Two Angels test positive for coronavirus
Angels in 2030 replied to jsnpritchett's topic in LA Angels | MLB Daily
And warren buffet is not as rich as he was pre CV19. Still he’s rich. As currently, CV19 is still WAY more contagious than sars, etc. Over 8M and counting - 2.3M in US alone -

Comparing death rates is only one factor. You also have to look at and compare the transmission rates. That’s the difference between CV19 and others such as sars - it’s extremely contagious and thus much more dangerous. A lot of a little is much less than a small amount of a huge amount. It’s like comparing 1% ownership of Apple/Amazon to 100% ownership of a family business. -

Only four teams have yet to sign anyone. Guess who’s one of those four? -
That is interesting news IP. However, they could still have been scouting tapes. I suspect they could also have been in contact with potential draftees/UDFA up until the draft - which would have helped in the recruiting UDFA process. Assuming of course a team is actually interested in signing UDFAs.

Looks like the Angels decided to take the day off yesterday. No problems - so did I. I’m sure they will back at it today and signing guys. -

interesting that the BoSux had 4-5 guys signed and listed shortly thereafter the 9am start time. Padres and Asstros also had 4+ signed within the first 20-30 minutes.
