  1. 100% -- any pitcher....i don't care what his age is or where he comes from....just a pitcher please....please. Especially since we don't have a 2nd round pick. My draft dreams are 1, 3, 4 & 5 all Ps. Honestly though, i'm resigned to the fact that they will select a non-pitcher. So a HS OF is what i'm fully expecting. Really, it could be worse, like last year. I still have no idea what the heck that 1st round pick was -- and then dumping him so quickly. Whole thing sucked. So a HS OF -- i'll take it.
  2. OK, that makes sense now then. I thought that was a bizarre response...and didn't make sense. Especially from a UCLA grad (maybe from the JC across town...lol jk).
  3. LOL, I think you missed the point altogether. Giving someone $245M of nondeferred money is not what i'd classify as an opportunity that you used to take advantage of a situation to your benefit. It's simply giving a ton of money to a guy. I love Rendon and can't wait to see him in an Angels uniform. But we have a long history of throwing money at a problem rather than building from the ground up properly and with a well run organization. Again, Angels have quite a long history of that culture & failure. Is Trout a good opportunity they took and ran with? Maybe if you want to be a homer and twist facts to make you feel better. It's also still completely missing the point. Drafting Adenhart is a prime example of an opportunity and risk the Angels took advantage of properly. Staying in the draft, recent picks of Adell, CRod and Marsh were times the Angels used the system to their advantage and took risk to their advantage and opportunity. On the negative, the international side of things for the 2010's might have been the downfall of the Angels farm system and ultimate team failures the past 5+ years. The what-could-have-been the last couple years is a killer to think about as an Angel fan. It's pretty clear and easy to see the line dividing the well run organizations versus those that are not. I'm not saying we are in the latter group -- but we're not (or have not) been in the former either (in-between). Hopefully we continue the improvements and move ourselves into that small group of well run organizations. As i said, my personal many years of pain keeps me from believing it until actually seen. This is an opportunity with the UDFA that we should and need to take advantage. Let's see what type of organization we are at June/July 2020. A few big-time slashes and little depth.....or a well rounded and smart organization.
  4. It's probably my built in nature as a 50 year Angel fan since birth and the usual curses/pain that entails (2002 excluded), but i just assume the Angels will be cheap and blow any opportunity there is for obtaining as many of the undrafted FAs they can. Not that the organization is cheap necessarily, money is spent. But not always well spent. Certainly opportunities are not taken advantage of by the Angels FO/ownership over the years. I suspect the big three (LAD, NYY & BOS) to be big winners here. But also the extremely well run, smart and respected organizations like TB, Stl, etc. I simply have zero faith we will be one of those unfortunately.
  5. Owners will ultimately win in this game because there's only 30 of them and they know how to keep their mouth shut. They also have other businesses to run, operate and make money in. They know that there are just way too many players who can't help themselves but to verbally crap all over themselves in these situations and put public opinion in their corner. And eventually, Joe Public will start complaining saying dumb things like if they can't be happy playing for X millions then F-them. Meanwhile owners are laughing in their mansions and playing on secret price increases to parking, peanuts, beer, dogs, etc. It's just a matter of time.
  6. I find it odd too why the general public rails against rich athletes getting paid so much to play a game. Meanwhile there's almost no talk of Tom Cruise, Will Smith, RD Jr., etc. making tens of millions in movies and we have to pay so much at the theaters. Or musicians making tens of millions for concerts (without any new music whatsoever and usually drunk/etc. playing on stage) and yet we pay $100's for tickets. Athletes, imho, have more talent and put more work in then either of these two sectors. Some of these are complete talent-less messes (btw, i'm actually friends with a few of these TL RMFers). It's just funny to me why athletes get this crap from average Joe but not the other entertainment sectors like the rock star, actor, etc. Then there's some CEOs that get crazy millions and do crap to the company...but that's another story (& that one actually is complained about more).
  7. I usually get annoyed at the players in labor talks and money. But i gotta admit, i think the owners are putting the squeeze on players here....knowing that they can and ignore the LT health of MLB. The owners have tons of money coming in, incredible appreciation of their assets, etc. I have a masters in Acctg/tax -- i understand the bogus nature of accounting numbers all too familiar. MLB is setup for misleading annual accounting GAAP financial statement figures. Regardless, those numbers thrown around for players to take this year seem way low. sure the season is less and they should get less since they are playing less games. That's obvious. But they should get full playoff figures. Also, sure there is less income due to little-to-no fans at games (if that happens). But you're missing out on the fact that their might be bigger media/advertising from much more people watching on TV. There's also way less daily expenses for owners if there is no fans at games, potentially less travel costs too, etc. But even beyond that, owners need to take some hit due to this situation for the betterment of MLB long-term. I think they are thinking long-term, but in a different sense -- they are thinking about labor relations and future deals. Whereas they should be thinking LT from a fan standpoint and bringing in more/younger fans. Instead they are going to alienate fans and continue to push them elsewhere. Final point, i do find it a bit odd that a business would make employees take a discount on agreed to terms in this financial situation. Many companies are struggling (or at least less profitable) -- mine included. But am I and the rest of the company staff being asked to decrease my salary? Heck no. But i guess it's apples-oranges comparison since sports leagues have more of a partner relationship. So i understand that. Still, it really does seem like the owners are trying to push everything down on the players this time.
  8. I'm so confused -- I was so ready to unleash some internet anger on Arte....and then IP spoils that whole process. Now i don't know who to complain about. What good is the internet and AngelsWin if i can't complain with my keyboard behind my monitor. It's exhausting just thinking about which side to complain about -- Cheap Arte or the dumb/lazy media. When will my suffering end?!?!
  9. Baseball players in general (sorry to offend anyone) are not exactly the brightest bulbs intellectually. I'd even place them on the very low end of the sports leagues.
  10. People are crapping on Snell, and Bauer (among others), about their comments with regards to risk and possibly not worth playing. Which i understand each side. But imagine if our wonderful angelic Angel Mike Trout decided it wasn't worth playing this year. How would we react to that? He has tons of money and his wife is having a baby this year. Yes, he'd be throwing away millions this year. But he has more money than he can spend -- so he could do it. How would we view THAT? MLB comes back but some guys opt out and he's one of them. So we have no Trout for the 2020 season. Not he he has given any indication of doing so -- i'm just using him as an example.
  11. I'd hardly compare construction workers and their reasons for working with the MLBPA. Talk about apples to oranges. Sans some new medical breakthrough, i'll be shocked if they can work this out for 2020. I think the NBA (& even NHL) is easier since it's less players involved per team and they can possibly go straight to playoff action only limiting further the teams. So it's a very limited amount of time for those involved. But starting a whole season -- yeah good luck with that. You simply have too many variables -- different rules in different locals, players families, safety, travel, money/salaries, etc. It's going to take a monumental effort to get something agreed to and workable for all parties involved in MLB. It's like a huge, complicated maze: every time you turn down one way, you eventually hit a stopping point and have to start all over.
  12. This all goes back to the owners wanting to cut/limit the minor leagues.....which goes to one single thing: money$$$. It has zero to do with Corona Virus-19. They are using CV-19 to get what they want. I'm sure GMs/etc, MLBPA, players, local cities, etc. all are in agreement that this is a bad idea. But one group, the ones that matter here (i.e., 32 owners), want something else....and they win.
  13. I'll go halves with you on a race horse.....if we can name him "DickJon Lovitz"
  14. I'm not sure why you're going down this long road and argument....seems like you are driving down a one way road. Kind of odd. Not sure where it's coming from. Relax, it's Monday. I simply made a minor comment about shadiness. Baseball has been a great opportunity for those in lesser fortunate countries & poverty to have an opportunity for greatness. But let's not be naive. It's not all candyland, unicorns and rainbows. But what is. So it can be both. I'm not deriding it. That's just the world. Heck, Disneyland is great for the City of Anaheim, creates jobs, SALT for the local government, etc. But it doesn't come without some warts. You do realize you can have both good & bad. Look no further than our own Angels Clay Daniels among others. I think MLB, not to mention the FBI, might have had some disagreement with your 100% rosy outlook of handlings.
  15. lol, seriously....come on. We all know it's incredibly shady with the int'l signings. There's so much happening behind the scenes with these signings. It's all about relationships with the agent, family, etc. -- not simply the highest bidder. There is no implying on that. It's much worse than high school FB/BB recruiting wars. Free team gear is laughably the least of any shadiness.
  16. I'd prefer to move on and spend that money on a SP this off-season instead. I think he'll age relatively well, but that's a questionable item.....and we can't afford that luxury.
  17. Ummm, Sarcasm...guess it wasn't obvious for you. I'll try harder next time
  18. It's really cool of his parents/etc. to have bought him all that official LA Angels gear with the hopes & expectations of the Angels signing him.
  19. I appreciate thinking outside the box. But It's a stupid idea. Let's face it, they are not wanting to get back to playing so we fans can watch and be entertained with baseball. It's all about money....especially to the owners. The more you go into the details and think about administratively doing this for the LT, it's not an option. The only option is if this were short-term for a few weeks in an effort to get more games while they get things ready to play at their own stadiums for the majority of the season. Either way, it'll be without fans. But the AZ/FL can only be done for a very short period. Anyone thinking otherwise is purely wishful thinking. Bank on it
  20. Oh i agree -- you should always go for the best player over specific needs. Especially with such young guys that are in the int'l group. At that age, spending big on Ps too risky. Plenty of big time int'l Ps that went for small amounts....and plenty high costs busts. So i personally agree with that approach on the int'l front. It's just funny when combined with our annual drafts and the FA. Having said all that, i am desperately hoping we go SP with our #1 pick in the upcoming draft (but first & foremost is best player).
  21. 7 inning games? come on, now we're losing it a bit. Starting in May in AZ for a few weeks to get a head-start isn't a horrible idea if that happened. Without fans is a great idea too if needed to get as many games played in the season. But this here is a horrible idea. There comes a point when the integrity of the games, and season, comes into play. Heck, why not just do tee ball so we can limit the players on the field to just position players and eliminate umps. Plus risk over reward. What happens if a 2nd wave hits too. Then what? Simply: If you can't play the games as it's meant to be, then don't play at all.
