  1. Scioscia trying to salvage some of his own poor decision making here.
  2. If I remember the play correctly, I thought Aybar was the one being lazy. Looks like both players assumed the other would go after the ball.
  3. It really sounds like they just aren't interested in having you as a season ticket holder anymore. Does it really make sense for you economically to be one?
  4. Hate to say it, but I agree. I've never really seen anything like it, except maybe Vernon Wells.
  5. Most would say Trout has been unexceptional this year defensively, and he's made a couple of big mistakes in the field. It's important to realize that the sample we are currently dealing with is about as reliable as three weeks of hitting statistics. DRS has him costing us just a couple of runs, and the misplays I'm thinking of could realistically account for most of them.
  6. This is not really how they work, although it is possible that this creeps into the rWAR version of the stat a bit.
  7. To be fair to Cashman, the Yankees were really up against the wall at the time the trade was made and they did get Wells for pennies on the dollar. The move also allows the Yankees to avoid the luxury tax over the remainder of Wells contract. A nice loophole that will save the Yankees a lot of money that they wouldn't have save without the trade.
  8. This could be the move that costs Scioscia his job.
  9. They say it takes three seasons worth of defense to be as confident in the results as you would one season of offense. In other words we can be about as confident in Trout's defensive numbers this year as we would be in less than three weeks of offensive numbers. This is also why UZR rates him out as slightly above average on the season. Yes he hasn't looked as good in the outfield, or actually been as good out there, but this is short run performance. Let's see where he's at by the end of the year.
  10. This was essentially the point I was trying to make in my previous post. The defense has been bad but the lineup is not THAT different from last season's, and there is an absolutely huuuuge difference between performance ratings.
  11. Better get used to being disappointed, he's on pace to be the best player to ever play the game and he gets a B+ in your book.
  12. The amnesty clause doesn't cost the players any money, it just frees up the cap space for the team to spend on another player.
  13. I really don't get this move... The team sucks because of a bunch of under performers, and here is Scioscia taking out one of the few guys actually performing in favor of guys who haven't. Talk about sending a message to your players about their performance...
  14. It was obvious Coello didn't have it after the first walk. I understand leaving him in and rolling the dice to try and save the bullpen to an extent, but once the game is broken open you might as well leave him in to serve the purpose of saving the pen...
  15. I've kind of had it with Scioscia. He's just trolling us bringing Williams right here...
  16. The defense has been bad, a lot of this has had to do with Trumbo playing first over Albert, Shuck and Harris getting significant time with Aybar and Bourjos hurt, Callaspo's inexplicable shityness, and Chris Iannetta. That said I think the numbers overstate the issue. The pitching has been sooooo bad that the stats think everyone sucks. The stats are going to look at where balls are hit, whether they are line drives, ground balls, fly balls and what not and expecting everything else to average out. Ultimately the stats aren't quantifying just how hard some of these balls are coming off the bat, and just how tough some of these plays have been. I don't think it's a coincidence that our horrible pitching has coincided with inexplicably bad defense.
  17. I liked the discussion on MLB network. "This has never happened before." In the history of MLB no teams had scored so many runs after going scoreless so long in a game.
