For the rotation, I've kind of changed my stance on what I want the Angels to do. I previously preferred a Paxton-type, who has a high upside but injury issues. But now, I'm leaning towards an Odorizzi-type, who doesn't have a high upside but should stay healthy.
I'd rather get 27 starts from a Jake Odorizzi than 15 starts from a James Paxton and the other 12 from a Jose Suarez.
Regardless of what starter they sign, I think they need to add a couple quality relievers to the bullpen.
On the outfield, I'd prefer they add someone who could be a starting RF'er, but I'm expecting them to sign more of a 4th OF type.

Yes, because pitchers always get hurt. Even if the Angels added another starter, Suarez would still be the the #8/9 guy, and teams will generally use at least 10 different starters throughout a season.

I might be seeing what I want to see but so far I feel like Minasian is doing something that Eppler didn't and that was mitigate downside risk.
He could have gone with Fletch at SS and Rengifo/Barreto at 2b in lieu of Iglesias and the 3m plus prospect cost but he saw the potential downside of that combo at 2b and realized how ugly it could be.
Same with Iglesias in the pen and Quintana in the rotation.
plus he's still getting know the system.  He likely doesn't want to jump the gun too early on letting a prospect go who he might end up feeling very strongly about in a good way.
So he's playing things fairly conservative for the most part.  At least so far.  He might take a bit more a flier on the second arm he adds to the rotation whether its a higher risk one through FAcy or via trade where he's forced to give up some prospects.
I do think he'll add another stable ish pen arm and someone more predictable for RF.

The only thing that I can make of Minasian so far is that he has been able to surround himself with more front office talent than I believe Eppler ever did.
First and foremost, he brought in three well-regarded Senior Advisors/AGM's from other organizations in Alex Tamin, Gene Watson, and Ray Montgomery.
I'd imagine that there will also be more additions than the other's we've seen so far (Parker, Chiti, Wiliams) and I hope that an improved front office as a whole should help the team succeed in the long run.

Usually when there's a report, other reporters will work to confirm if it's true or not. Yet, no reporter has said either way whether they can confirm if it is or isn't true.

I'm not because he said in the introduction of his article that he values floor along with upside and not just pure upside. Adams hasn't established as much of a floor as other prospects, partly because there was just no minor league season in 2020.

Honestly the bullpen scares me more than our rotation right now, especially if we’re assuming that some sort of SP is still brought in. Some may be forgetting how awful it was last year. The rotation has promise, just needs to stay healthy and take at least some sort of step forward. The pen? Not so much.
Iglesias is really the only sure thing in there...and relievers are never sure things. The gap between the guaranteed guys and the next tier - Bard, Keller, Reyes, Quijada, Rivera* - is still worrisome. Since most of those guys can be optioned to AAA, I would do all I can to fill in the pen ahead of them and use them only if necessary.

Going back to what I said last night in a different thread, Maria Torres never quoted anyone in her article yet it seems like she talked to someone within the organization when writing this article.

"But he’s not a great fit in Anaheim, according to people with knowledge of the Angels’ thinking, even if the team were to offer him the record-setting annual value (greater than $36 million) he reportedly seeks."
"That may not be a hopeless scenario. Minasian still needs to get to know the talent he has. He and his Angels colleagues are encouraged by the potential of youngsters Jaime Barria, Griffin Canning and Patrick Sandoval. They’re confident Dylan Bundy and Andrew Heaney, both of whom are in the final seasons of their contracts, will continue to progress. They’re comfortable giving two-way player Shohei Ohtani an opportunity to pitch like the star he was when healthy in 2018. And Quintana is a proven commodity."

Whoever she talked to apparently has "knowledge of the Angels' thinking" and has an understanding of what Minasian "and his Angels colleagues" thoughts are.
If I had to guess, I'd say she's getting this information from Gene Watson, an Angels Senior Advisor. Watson previously worked for the Royals, who Torres was a beat writer for before she became the Angels beat writer.

Sure, that's true.  It's hard to say how much he has left.
I know some want relievers, but just given how volatile relievers are year to year, I'd probably rather take a 1-2 year gamble on a SP (necessary risk for us) and get someone like Pederson, who will really help us on the corner OF spots as Adell and Marsh take more time to develop, and sign various under-the-radar relievers to minor league deals.

While Pederson would be a great addition to the team, I'm not sure that Minasian will be able to afford him with whatever budget he's been given.

I think a number of fans, myself included, are OK with the Angels adding a mid rotation SP, a quality reliever or two, and a stop-gap RF.
The question is, do the Angels actually have the money to add those players? @Jeff Fletcher?
