We know who our top prospect is, but my goodness is there a battle for #2.
Marsh is definitely an option. Great plate discipline, power, speed, left handed. Good defensive OF. Still filling out and once he does, with that strength and athleticism, there's no stopping him.
But then there's Maitan, who probably has the highest upside of anyone. The bat has a chance to be generationally special, and coming into this season, he's trimmed down and looks fine defensively at SS which is a revelation.
Then there's Canning, whose stuff is blowing everyone away in the minors. He has mid or front of the rotation upside, is coming closer to meeting it, and is knocking on the major league door at AAA.
And as a dark horse, we have Suarez, Jones, Adams and Jackson. Suarez is a LHP with gaudy strikeout numbers and is doing quite well in AAA despite being only 20. Jones is adjusting at 2B but look at the overall numbers. Still a solid blend of speed and power from a middle infielder. Jordyn Jones is drawing comps with Adell, which is dangerous for everyone, and Jackson's dynamic offensive ability and future at SS/3B/2B makes him almost certainly a future top 100 prospect as well.
You can make a case for all of them.

    He should have walked though....

I mean it makes sense. A coach likely has very little influence on the outcome of a team.
If coaching ability was important, the Sox and Yanks would be screwed with two rookie managers in Boone and Cora.

If think they'd probably platoon Ohtani. He'd DH against RHP. That way Scioscia can keep Valbuena and Pujols in the lineup, because that's totally worked the last two years.

It doesn't affect them at all, they still suck.

This is pretty much it -- the walks are low but it hasn't been exposed as a weakness.  There is really nothing in his game to date that should make one believe he won't walk, in fact if you hear the things he says, the dude is constantly talking up waiting for his pitch.  He's just whomping the ball right now.

I think folks are putting far too much emphasis on his lack of walks. This time last year, Marsh had zero plate discipline, and a year later it's one of his strong suits.
Adell is only 19. Chances are, he'll walk more later on, and if he doesn't....well I don't think anyone is complaining about Brendan Rodgers or Bo Bichette as prospects despite the lack of selectiveness, and Adell is up there with both of them. He might even be better.

Lots of reasons. Speaking with friends and teammates that chose to play internationally versus the minor leagues, money played a big role. Rather than making $1600 a month and riding the bus for hours to play in half empty fields, they go across the ocean to make a half million or million, and get to refine their craft before coming back stateside.
Sometimes, teams will favor a good performance in Korea or Japan over a good performance in AA. Plus it's more lucrative signing a major league deal as a FA.
Miles Mikolas is the most recent example. Eric Thames too.

I ended up going with Rengifo.
    1. If it all MVP, I'm not picking a pitcher, for obvious reasons.
    2. If the performances are all equally outstanding, I looked at age/level. Both Rengifo and Adell are doing things at their current levels that no one else their age is doing. It's more amazing what Adell is doing at age 19, admittedly.
    3. When you're hitting .330, and the ball looks like a beach ball coming in, it's hard not to swing. Rengifo is showing a more advanced approach at a more difficult level than Adell, which is why he has my vote.

This is the kind of stupid shit that ruins good hitters. Rengifo is not now, nor ever will be a power hitter and yet scouts are all looking for launch angles instead of what does the player actually do. Hitting them where they ain't is far more valuable than just hitting them in the air. Carew made his living sending balls through holes and often on the ground.
High batting average, an even higher on base percentage, coupled with intelligent base stealing makes this guy better than Chone Figgins, who couldn't hit for power as well. And Figgins never put together these type of minor league numbers. It makes you wonder what Rengifo's ceiling is.
At 21 Rengifo is probably our best choice to play 2nd base next season over Fletcher that is more valuable as the utility infielder. At worst he should be on the roster in September of this year.
I've been waiting a while for the Angels to develop a Rengifo style player. Gets on base a lot and causes havoc. Able to move runners, hit against any shift and even bunt his way on with his speed. So much more exciting to watch then waiting for that home run every five games and a shit load of strikeouts in between.

Second Base got a reaction from stanick88 in How long do you think the Angels have?
For me, it's simply logic and hope.
Logic says the Mariners aren't nearly this good. They've had everything break right for them so far abd they just aren't a very good team. Decent offense, but crap starting pitching and a crap, yet overperforming bullpen. By contrast, the Angels are a slightly better team than this. The offense should be average or better, and currently they're crap. The starting pitching is this good, and it has been for a while, it's just been unhealthy, that's all. And the bullpen is crap and is underperforming right now, which is to say they're performing worse than crap.
So logic says the M's are going to tail off the second half and the Angels will get stronger in the second half.
And then there's hope. I hope the offense improves because Cozart is going to hit better than he did in April and May, Calhoun has turned the corner, Young is a legitimate 4th OF and Kinsler has rounded into form. You might even say that logically, most of that will come true, but for right now, it's hope.
I hope Richards and Ohtani return and our starting pitching will be that much better. Ohtani's return undoubtedly helps the offense too.
And finally, I hope Eppler's makes a couple of savvy moves and improves the bullpen before the deadline. I like the McGuire move and think it can pay dividends.
So based on these, I think the Angels win 88 games and the M's win 87.

I guess it's a good thing the Angels have so much dead weight on the 40 man.
I count anywhere between 7-10 of those guys that need to be added.
As far as cutting the fat, Jesus Castillo (if the velo is down), Parker Bridwell, Hansel Robles, Blake Wood, Nolan Fontana, Jefry Marte, Jabari Blash, Akeel Morris, Deck McGuire, Miguel Almonte, one of our catchers....
As much progress as the Angels have made in the past few years, it really isn't normal to have so many replaceable players on the 40 man. It kind of shows that as an organization, we're still recovering from the Dipoto purge.
