It’s gonna be a lot of fun watching the Trout Rendon show for the next 6 years.

Max Stassi and some veteran they pick up will be good enough with our offense.
A LH first baseman is not a necessity. You can’t have everything.

And like I said, a true closer. Everyone else is good enough.

Every team has holes. We just need to plug the big ones.

Next year they should just start scheduling 7 inning double headers on Sunday’s, not every Sunday, but say 6-10 a year.  Then you can start the season a week later or give the players 6-10 more days off throughout the year.  I also think there might be an opportunity to keep the 3 man taxi squad going forward, maybe the players get paid as major leaguers during that time, but don’t have to be on the 26 man roster.

Just sign Bauer for 2021, and suck it up for one year on the luxury tax threshold.   Pujols comes off payroll after that, and Upton the year after that.

Bundy did everything to win the game.
Buttrey did everything to lose the game.
Trout getting on base 5 times did not suck.
Ohtani with the winning hit did not suck.
Wait, the Halos won an extra innings game?    Newness!

I am not even going to go back and figure out who brought up this point, but its a fair point that the “minimum wage” is something that varies by state, so it’s hard to use that as a real barometer.

I guess then I would just like to see minor league players negotiate their own minimum salary (as major leaguers do) and have it be more in line with supply-and-demand for the service they provide.

Or at least give them a little more freedom, like limiting the number who are under control every year. Say you can protect your top 40 or 50 minor leaguers, but all the rest of them are free each year to seek employment with any organization they want. Then there would be a little more of a free market affect.

Yes they are following a law that was passed specifically for them. Congress called it the "Save America's Pastime Act" ::jerk off emoji:: and it allowed teams to skirt minimum wage and overtime laws by making sure each player was compensated the federal minimum wage for 40 hours per week during the regular season regardless of how many hours they work or the laws of the states or cities they play in.

statistically, La Stella wasn't bad at 1b but ask any fielder how important it is to have someone at 1b with experience.  It's not just about fielding balls hit to you but how quickly you get to the bag and your footwork around it.  I can't tell you how many time I saw Tommy step in the completely opposite direction to receive a throw at 1b.
say what you want about Albert being old etc, but around the bag, he is and has been one of the best in the game.
Secondly, La Stella is a butcher at 2b.  His most natural position is actually 3b where he is slightly below avg to avg at best.
Adell has been awful in RF.  Goodwin was bad in LF as is Upton.  Adell spent 35 games in the minors in RF.  A position he didn't even play in high school.  Adell is also inexperienced in LF so moving him over there might not be much better.  Having terrible defensive corner OFers has also impacted Trout's metrics.  They are terrible.
I think with a better defensive 1bman, and a shit ton of hard work in the off season by Adell, this team will get much better defensively.

Where did I ever say I was abused by an employer?
The reality is I took a couple of positions that were, in my opinion, strongly in my favor (in terms of the experience I needed) and when I got what I needed (and could not really benefit any more by staying) I bailed and the next person who wanted that experience got the gig and was thrilled.
There is zero “abuse” in this.  Both parties get what they want.  Willingly.

Just because every industry takes advantage of people with limited negotiating power doesn't make it right. This is the reason for 90% of the inequality we see in this country today. Just because you were willing to sacrifice what you did doesn't mean you should've had to and it isn't like everyone else is in the same position to be able to.

I mean there are lots of owners who would be negotiating. So we don't know who would get the best prospects. Alabama doesn't get every best football recruit they go out for. Competition would be good. I am for letting the owners and players make as much money as possible. A complete free market would be best for everyone. Maybe these players would be making more money than they are making now and wouldn't be getting less than minimum wage? Maybe they would be getting less than that? No one knows. To your, well the Dodgers and Yankees and Mets would just buy up everything, Um no they wouldn't They aren't the only people signing free agents. The Angels paid for Rendon and gave out Trout the most lucrative contract in sports. The Marlins signed and then traded Stanton to a massive deal. I also believe there should be revenue sharing in MLB, I think there should be a salary floor but not a salary cap. I can't remember but who won the World Series last year? Who won it the year before? When was the last time the Yankees or Dodgers won a World Series. For that matter when was the last time the Mets did? It wouldn't destroy the MLB at all.
Why are you not for letting the players make as much money as they possibly can? Let them experience a true free market.
What would LeBron be worth in a total free market in the NBA? Brady in his prime? etc? The only reason there are salary caps in sports is to protect the owners from themselves. Because the players are worth much more than they are getting paid. Imagine if there was no soft cap in MLB. What would happen? What would players be getting paid? I think that world would be much more interesting.

No one cares about a great story. That's worth nothing. I don't know when you stop calling people kids but they are definitely not kids the majority of the minor leaguers are adults. Entry level positions pay minimum wage. Heck In N Out pays more than minimum wage for drive thru staff you're welcome @Stradling I love that you are arguing to pay them nothing just because they are playing a sport.
    We agree to disagree.
I think make minor league baseball players independent contractors, not employees. Let them negotiate wages and terms of their agreement. MLB clubs should not have control over a player and where they live and where they play said job. If they so choose to negotiate below minimum wage pay then so be it. If they so do so for more than a year then it's on them. But they should have the flexibility to pick and choose and negotiate. Freedom of choice works both ways.
Getting rid of the MLB draft should be the first start of said process. Let the players negotiate with all teams and let who ever is willing to pay the best contract for the best terms win said services for the duration they've agreed upon the contract. Would you disagree with this?

I just don’t see exactly why minor leaguers “need to be paid better” . . .
By and large they are thrilled to be in the position they are in.  And when they stop being thrilled they maybe decide to do something else.  And the guy that replaces him is thrilled.
I am speaking in generalities here of course.
I recall my early days in my 20s of basically trading my work for a combination of experience/opportunity (rather than pay) and it was perfectly fine for what I was trying to accomplish long term.
I simply view the minor leagues the same way.  It’s just my opinion.

Disagree with your comparison between actors who are trying to make it in the business auditioning etc for free and professional baseball players trying to make it to the big leagues. Auditions are basically try outs and they aren't making any money for anyone at this time but they are making money for the minor league clubs and the major league clubs, maybe not a lot but they are making money. I agree try out all you want for baseball teams for free its your prerogative. I think where it gets dicey is that these minor leaguers are contracted individuals which the ML club can do whatever they want with. They can uproot their lives and trade them to a different organization across the country or heck move them up a division which will move them to a different city or state even with out any say so from said player. How is a player supposed to have a job or a salaried job, where he doesn't know if tomorrow he has to pack a bag and move to a different city. I don't think this part is discussed much.
Yes it is there choice to play this sport, but that's where my argument comes in that they should be able to negotiate contract terms with said club. They should be independent contractors basically instead of employees of the parent club. At any point in time they should be able to seek a better deal and sign else where, at least be able to negotiate the terms of their contract with the parent club that said parent club doesn't for lack of a better term "own" them for a huge amount of time, while also paying them pennies. Freedom of choice should work both ways, there is a supply and demand somewhere in here.
