Whitfield came up before because they didn't want Adell playing part time, and they knew they were going to have to send him through waivers.. They want the defense going into the rough stretch of games here.

None of the other guys who are in AA or AAA are on the 40, and they also have to get down to 13 pitchers (not including Ohtani) by the end of the month. That's a 8 man pen, and they had been running 9.

It was Iglesias/Tepera/Loup/Ortega/Bradley/Mayers/Barranclough/Barria/Warren with the rotation of Ohtani/Sisleth/Lorenzen/Sandoval/Syndergaard/Detmers.

They extended the rosters a few more weeks

John Heyman reports this morning that multiple teams are engaged in trade talks with multiple players involved.  Some included teams are the Red Sox, Yankees, Phillies, Reds, Mets, Royals, Marlins, Rays, Rangers, Astros, Giants, Dodgers, Angels, and Padres and talks are heating up on starting pitchers, middle infielders, corners, catchers and outfielders.

Relief pitching market must be dry

A little bit of an overpay, maybe by 3 million per year, but not bad.

Depending on how they structure the contract, it looks like the Angels payroll is now sitting around 172 million (assuming Iglesias'salary is even across the board).

They've gone to 190 before and likely even may go to 200, as long as it's under the luxury tax, which it is.

I don't see any reason why they can't afford Marcus Stroman and a backup catcher and stay under 200 million.

    And a shortstop

The dude has faced four hitters in his major league career.  Immediately gave up two solo home runs.  Then walked the next two.

He thew 15 pitches.  12 balls.  2 strikes hit for HRs.  One other strike.

And that's the entirety of his major league career (so far).

How did he expect us to react to his signing?

    This is hilarious

Of all of them, Detmers is the one Im least excited to lose. Who knows, he could be the next newcomb(?).

But he likely ends up a solid middle of the rotation guy, if not better. And its been years since we made one of those, let alone had one we could rely on for several years.

Would love to get Castillo if they can keep Marsh and Detmers

I think at this point it's pretty safe to say Robbie Ray (maybe Stroman) is probably the target and, if they miss out, they'll make a strong pivot towards Luis Castillo, in which yes, including a MLB-ready SP will almost be necessary, if not two. That's where Lorenzen helps us.

    1. Ray/Castillo/Stroman
    2. Syndergaard
    3. Ohtani
    4. Sandoval
    5. Lorenzen
    6. whoever is left of Suarez, Canning, Barria, Detmers, Bachman if there's a Castillo trade

Might as well get both Castillo and one of Stroman/Ray

Castillo Ray Ohtani Syndergaard is a real playoff rotation
