  1. Ohtani was in the 94 mph range in his previous start and hit 97-98. That's definitely not a 10 mph difference. Ohtani averaged 97 mph on his fastball in Japan.
  2. So I guess most of the hits weren't hard hit? Regarding the velocity, perhaps he is deliberately not throwing as hard as he can during ST. Greinke, for example, has been throwing 84-86 mph during ST. *shrug*
  3. Well, Pedro Moura reported that Ohtani's fastball sat around 93 mph and hit 96 in the first inning. Maybe Ohtani was throwing 97-98 in the second and third innings.
  4. Ohtani's fastball reportedly sat around 93 MPH and hit 96. Obviously not bad velocity, but he did average 97 MPH in Japan while hitting 100+ frequently. I wonder if he's just not throwing at maximum effort so far.
  5. The hype surrounding Ohtani is fully warranted. I'm going to be expecting a #1 this year.
  6. Not bad velocity for his first ST start. I'm fully expecting him to be hitting 100+ by April.
  7. Fuck that. That's a ridiculous contract. I'm glad the Angels didn't sign him. At least he's in the NL.
  8. Nah. That's not what I meant. I just don't find PECOTA projections to be that useful or valuable.
  9. Yeah, and if you read his scouting reports he was projected to be an Aaron Rowand type player. Yet he's now potentially on his way to becoming the GOAT.
  10. Baseball America rated the Marlins as the 3rd worst farm system in 2012....and that was with Fernandez, Yelich, Ozuna, Realmuto, etc. Bottom line is that nobody really knows how these guys are going to pan out, especially prospects in the lower minors (who are a long ways away from the majors). And these projections and rankings can change in a hurry.
  11. http://m.mlb.com/prospects/2018/ #1 Ohtani #62 Adell #87 Maitan #93 Jones Keith Law ranked 5 Angels in his top 100 (would've been 6 had he included Ohtani).
  12. It's good to see that our farm system is getting some recognition and praise. But Acuna #1 over Ohtani in BA's top 100? Nah.
  13. https://www.baseballamerica.com/online/prospects/rankings/organization-talent-rankings/2012/2613151.html Baseball America had the Marlins as the 3rd worst farm system in 2012. And that was with Yelich, Fernandez (RIP), Ozuna, Realmuto, etc. as their top prospects. The Mariners may very well have the worst farm system in baseball. But these things can change fast.
  14. Well, that's one less potential suitor for Yu Darvish.
  15. Steamer is pretty conservative with their pitching projections. Scherzer, for example, is projected to have the fifth-best SP ERA in all of baseball at 3.38. Ohtani at #10 is projected to have a 3.48 ERA. But yea, Ohtani has nasty stuff and he was a huge strikeout + GB pitcher in Japan. And with our defense...good things should happen. I think he'll easily beat that projection.
  16. For the Steamer hitter WAR projections: 1. Trout 8.7 2. Donaldson 6.4 3. Machado 6.3 4. Bryant 6.2 5. Harper 6.1 6. Correa 5.9 7. Lindor 5.9 8. Stanton 5.9 9. Betts 5.7 10. Seager 5.5 11. Springer 4.9
  17. Just checked the Steamer SP projections for 2018. Ohtani is projected to have the 10th-best ERA in all of baseball with a 3.48 ERA. Scherzer, who is #5, is projected to have a 3.38 ERA.
  18. I'd be thrilled with those hitting numbers though I think he'll put up better numbers than that as a pitcher.
  19. It's not like he was ever leaving the Yankees, anyway.
  20. I can’t imagine the Rangers giving much. Moore isn’t good.
  21. I wonder if the Angels have enough $ remaining to sign Darvish.
  22. Wow, I expected he’d get more. This is a great deal. Eppler strikes again.
