Eh, Hosmer's overrated. A good player but not worth a big contract. He'll end up stealing money from them the same way as what Pujols has done to the Angels.

CJ came back to haunt the Angels every time he got the chance. And he was an Angel!

This is a trade that will come back to haunt the Angels. Cron has potential to put up good numbers, like he did in 2016. With regular playing time and now playing a lot of games in a division that is loaded with hitters park, he might put up solid numbers like he did in 2016.

Valbuena's only had 2 good years out of 8 that he's record at least 300 plate appearances.

Way more of these type of posts since the Pujols era than during the years 2002-2009.

Angels should have ask the Rays if they want Pujols and his great numbers from 2017.

Based on this http://m.mlb.com/mlb/fantasy/preview/y2018?team=ana do you think we make the playoffs? I'm not crazy about those pitcher predictions.

Won't be fired.   Contract is up.  They may not wish to extend him another contract but he can't get fired.

Correction....he could get fired mid year.

JustATroutFan got a reaction from Billy_Ball in Why not just sign Arrieta?
Paying most pitchers by signing them to a big contract this late in their careers usually aren't a good thing. They just don't have good of a stuff as they did when they were younger and injuries occur more. Why, a great example of this is CJ Wilson. I thought he was going to be great for the Angels for a long time once he signed a contract with the team in December of 2011, the same day that Albert got his big contract from the Angels. At the time, I thought it was a good move. CJ was really good for the Rangers his last two years there as a starter despite pitching in that little league stadium. The move to Angels Stadium, a pitchers park, was supposed to help CJ continue his great success. But it didn't. I know, hindsight is 20/20 but it's still risky to hand out big contracts to starting pitchers who are at least 30 years old.

I see a lot of people saying we should go after another starter along the lines of Odorrizi, Cashner, Lynn. While I have nothing against those options, I don't see how they actually improve the team beyond providing depth. Why not just get the guy who would actually likely be our best starter in a season where we are trying to not just make the postseason, but make noise. I understand he is not the ace he once was, but he would still likely be our best starter (Richards if healthy and Ohtani have equal potential, but key word is likely). This team has the pieces to make the playoffs, but if we are to make an addition to the rotation, why not add the guy who would give us the best chance to get over the hump between playoff team and WS contender.
Will Arrieta be overpayed? Yes in terms of his later years likely lacking production, but why tread water with the other guys when we have a lot of key guys in their primes now and not getting any younger (Upton, Calhoun, Simmons, Richards, Cozart).

Better than Anaheim Bob, who still talks about 2008 postseason series against the Red Sox....

JustATroutFan reacted to Angel Oracle in 2018 has a 1982 feel to it????
Much like 1982, this team has some good power potential with Kinsler, Calhoun, Trout, Upton, Pujols, Cozart, Ohtani/Cron/Valbuena, and even Simmons and Machete.
Much like 1982, this team has pretty much airtight defense.
Much like 1982, the starting pitching is a question mark going into the season.
The key could be the bullpen.   It was meh in 1982, no real season long consistency from anyone outside of Andy Hassler.   If Eppler can get another late innings solid guy, and Jim Johnson can rediscover his pre-2017 stuff, Bedrock doesn't regress to Badrock like in 2017, and Parker repeats 2017 success, that's a rock solid late innings group.   Lots of ifs though
1982 was a lot of fun, until ALCS games 3-5.   And they were coming off of a sub .500 season in 1981, just as this team is coming off of in 2017.

True. That is what makes 2012 worse. You expected Santana and Haren to pitch like All Stars and they failed big time. Bums

Trout would be like Ruth if he play at Coors Field for half his games. Trout and his Angels will play at Coors Field in May of this year. Trout's hitting at least 4 home runs.

Blackmon's numbers are a fraud, just like Preston Wilson. Mediocre player who looks like a stud because of Coors Field.  And Springer is a one dimensional hitter. Next......

Yeah, he could still throw 77 innings and they can still make the postseason but that's slim. Would need Ohtani to pitch like an ace like he did in Japan AND Shoemaker to pitch like the 2014 version if Richards can't even throw 80 innings this year.
