Supply and demand. Remember it is about simplicity. When the demand outweighs the supply then the cost goes up. Housing, goods & services, etc. Not to mention the tax rates and regulations on the businesses that provide those goods and services are insanely high so they are passing those costs on to the consumer.
The top 20% includes a huge chunk of the middle class that spend their money on goods and services.
Poor people should struggle, that is what happens when you are poor. If you are poor you shouldn't have high speed internet, or a cell phone, or be able to purchase alcohol, booze, etc. You should have a small apartment, ride the bus, buy food from the local grocery store, and spend your free time trying to get a better job or get a second job.

Cost of living is high because the population is too high.
Another reason to completely shut down immigration.
Like I said, I shouldn't be paying 28% of my salary to the fed and another 6% to the state so some McDonalds workers can collect food stamps or some deadbeat can collect unemployment for a year.
I also don't think I should be paying for a huge military that is acting like the worlds police in the middle east.
Basically, I think that the top earners pay enough taxes, the middle class pays too much. I also think that the lower class gets way too many benefits for being lazy and unemployable.

Because if we raise salaries, the cost of goods, services and rents would surely stay flat. There would be no increases there, so everything would be fixed!
Right?

as long as we have a do-it-yourself system, people will always be in a variety of classes. there are a multitude of reasons for why people end up where they do. it's up to individuals to make the most of the opportunities that are out there in our system. that involves taking advantage of education and pursuing things that interest you for a career. paying people $15 for flipping burgers as a career move is not going to move people from a lower class to a higher one, nor is increasing my taxes to help little lamar get more food stamps. it's not the job of gov't to create those opportunities and that's why socialism needs to take a hike. i worked hard to get where i am. there's no reason the next guy shouldn't do the same.

Been there, didn't like it so I decided to live like a capitalist. Better housing, better food, neighbors don't steal your TV. Given the choice to not be poor was the best decision I made. Sure would be pissed if our government took that option away.

Was this meant to be a satirical rant on the political party you are not aligned with? Or, are you sincerely curious about whom one might choose as their candidate for the presidency?

This is just silly. If not their policies, how is one supposed to judge who to vote for?

Stealing people's money that they work for is immoral..........
and inhumane.

Lol.... you don't think bankrupting this country by overwhelming expensive welfare programs is something to be scared shitless about?
If Sanders won I would have to completely change my lifestyle, sacrifice a lot of the luxuries I have worked hard for so some deadbeats could buy an iphone and Natty light.

You're dreaming. He will accept a buyout but not just walk away.

So let me get this straight:
1) Arte approves/facilitates a deal for a 32 year old injury prone drug addict
2) Arte decides to pay almost the entirety of Hamilton's salary for him to play on a rival team after the dumbass he signed relapsed
3) Arte is afraid of signing free agents now because his ridiculous gamble backfired (to no one's surprise)
This guy is the worst owner in the MLB
We're ****ed, get ready to be the Phillies when Trout dips

While I don't think times are bad yet, they could be soon.
It's not about a big splash. It's about glaring holes and a deep free agent class. It's about him feeling burned because he decided to sign a drug addict. And dump that drug addict. It's about a $2.5 billion tv deal... which... coupled with the national tv deal and internet revenue.... covers his payroll.
It's about economics.

Gentry has been embarrassingly bad the last two years. Expecting him to be anything more than a defensive specialist/pinch runner is a recipe for being mediocre.
He's another Victorino if Victorino was 4 years younger and never great at baseball at one point in his career
Nava was terrible last year and should be seen as a reclamation project to see if he can get back to .340-.350 OBP territory. Again, leaning on him to take 500 at bats is embarrassing
Long story short: I agree, LF is unmitigated disaster that is going to be just as pathetic as last year and even worse than when Hamilton/Wells were running around out there

I think we're heading back to the dark times of the 90s when Trout leaves w/ Arte running the ship and the state of our minor league system. Hope I'm wrong obviously, but there is just no plan seemingly

Ridiculous thread. Arte is ultimately responsible for plummeting the minor league system into bottom of the league area annually. He's also responsible for all the big contracts for underperforming players he's signed
So either rebuild the right way or ****ing sack up and spend. Being in between when you have the best player in the league locked up is asanine
It's awful ownership to sign Pujols/Hamilton/Wilson and then give up after that because they didn't work out. We have the 30th ranked farm system in baseball. We aren't getting an impact player unless we spend. We aren't better than mediocre this year unless we spend

No, that would be an embarrassing return for an asset under club control at a reasonable rate for the next 4-5 years. I would especially not do that trade when you consider we gave up Newcomb to get him.
Again, if you're going to try to trade for prospects - why not just go full rebuild. If you want to win - why not just go into the damn luxury tax to do it?
Lol at that fantasy trade of yours propelling us into the playoffs. Micah Johnson and Andre Ethier...lol
The Dodgers would never in a million years retain on Ethier to get Santiago. They have Kershaw/Iwakuma/Ryu/Anderson/McCarthy/Urias/De Leon/Montas/Wood who need more innings...they don't need average starting pitching. Think before you post

You gotta be kidding me
Dipoto, Stoneman, Eppler, hell even Reagins are not the problem with this team and never have been. It's the inept owner that micro-manages everything and has no vision except catering to the fat man in the dugout that is the problem with this franchise.
Mediocrity doesn't get you anywhere, and your solution of having Pennington at SS doesn't get you more than mediocrity. Neither does your mediocre fantasy reliever and 2B that Santiago and Wilson (making 18 million dollars) would bring us

You can keep beating this drum but the fact is the Angels improved the team long term. More so than waiting a couple years to see if a pitcher in the minors can get control of his pitches.

I think he's proposing we trade Simmons for relievers, while trading Santiago for Ethier at 18 million retained, and Micah Johnson.
Which is almost equally as ridiculous
