We couldn't win with Ohtani on a cheap contract. We weren't winning with him on the contract the Dodgers gave him.
I think that’s a false narrative.
His salary in 23’ was $30M. His salary in 24’ will be roughly a 23’ Ohtani, Loup and Tepera. We could have built out a team around that especially with the youngsters.
All that being said, I have my doubts he would have returned even if we matched. Oh well. -
At least when Ohtani signs elsewhere in the off-season we can go back to just “wasting a generational talent” in Trout and not both Trout and Ohtani.

Dunno what all has been said in this thread but for all the gushing about Urshela, his offense has basically been what good David Fletcher provided. He's sporting an OPS+ of 84, Fletcher's career OPS+ was 86. It's mostly been batting average driven, very little power and lackluster OBP.
Obviously his track record is better, but he's not been the massive upgrade people seemingly want to make him out to be. Glad he's here as a support player regardless.I’ll take my chances he will revert to his mean, which is a much better hitter than what Fletcher has shown in a while. As a super utility (3B, SS, 2B, 1B) hes already pretty valuable.

I get that Rendon is getting on base but is it time to move him down in the lineup yet? He’s slugging under .300…
-
Way to use the maths on us. I’d take a 3.6 WAR over a full season on a rookie catcher. I’m sure our Stassi/AAAA setup last year was negative.

The Angels middle of the order
Renfroe: .154
Lamb: .167
Drury: .182
The Angels need Rendon and Walsh back and move O'Hoppe up in the order.
Well they certainly couldn’t get any worse…right?

O’Hoppe with 2 homers so far today.
September call up? How much worse could he be than Stassi and Suzuki?

Didn’t see that he entered waivers, bummer.

I like Marsh as a leadoff option more than Wade as he actually works counts. I think he’ll lower his strikeouts and turn those more into hits and walks.

Obvious answer here is Stefanic. Hit the cover off the ball last year and spring this year. If he’s a passable second base I don’t see why he shouldn’t get a shot to stick.
After that I hope Brandon Davis continues his solid play and gets a look later in the year.

Seems like a really strange move this far into spring. Also seems like he was really close with Trout. He couldn’t play a passable 1st and outfield backup?
-
Keep the outfielders. Buy a pitcher.
I really want to see what Marsh can do at the top of the lineup with Trout and Rendon back in the lineup. Adell will be that wildcard in the 6 or 7 spot and Upton rotates in when needed.
Continue to develop Bachman, Davis etc and if we’re close, make a trade at the deadline for a TOR pitcher.

I’d rather keep Davis than the likes of Rojas, Wong and all the other garbage pitchers we haven’t DFA’d yet.

I thought the general consensus was keep pitchers in double A and promote them when they are ready from there. Has this changed because of the Covid protocols needing promotions from TripeA or has the level of competition in TripleA increased because of less minor league teams?

Maybe they're dumping Bundy or Guerra to create a spot.
We could only be so lucky…hoping for Bundy, he’s toast.

I’m ready for Marsh to lead-off. Has a .320. OBP with the ability to steal and be a menace on the base paths. Keep Fletcher hitting 2nd and move Ohtani to 3rd.
2022 line-up
Marsh
Fletcher
Ohtani
Trout
Walsh
Rendon
Upton/Adell
Stassi

I don’t get the big deal about losing a 2nd rounder. If he signs a pillow contract with an opt-out and does well, do we not believe we can trade him mid-season if we have no shot for the playoffs ? Even if he does bad (~4 ERA) someone will think they can turn him around for a playoff run.
