  1. Not really. It's not like the Jim Morris story. Mulder had a fairly long career with some success, then became an ESPN analyst before his comeback. Hard for the average person to relate to that or find inspiration in it.
  2. Yep. He's 23. Move him up to challenge him and see what he can do against other people his age.
  3. Trade them Blanton for a couple of batting practice balls.
  4. cool. Maybe he'll still be here 37 years from now, like it seems like Jepsen has been.
  5. Nice. "While he's young enough to hope for a rebound, it's certainly troubling that his average fastball velocity dropped from 90.7 mph in 2012 all the way to 87.8 mph in 2013."
  6. Yep. Getting to the point at which you won't even be able to give them all a fair shake in real games.
  7. Oh, god. I had pretty much forgotten about Belcher. Thanks for bringing him up and ruining my day.
  8. Though to be fair, that 10 HR season was an injured-plagued one. Bonds had hit as many as 39 HR in a season before (and hit for 30+ six times over his entire career)--so 37 in 1977 wasn't really that big of a surprise.
  9. Somewhat small sample sizes once you move past games at catcher, but he's actually hit better as a C than as a 1B: http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/split.cgi?id=napolmi01&year=Career&t=b#defp (He's "best" at DH, but has only started 56 games there in his career...)
  10. At least he didn't mention Albert Pujols...
  11. Not being contrary for the hell of it. Just trying to understand why people think this is so horrible. It's a tiny fraction of the tickets.
  12. What's the big deal here? No one who has already paid or was already a season ticket holder is being asked to pay these prices. They're newly released seats. If people want to pay this price, let them. "In a typical year, Siegel said, the Dodgers can sell 3,000 to 5,000 seats based on fans declining to renew season tickets. With a renewal rate exceeding 98% this year, he said, the Dodgers could not accommodate fans wishing to add season seats or upgrade from a partial-season package. If all those fans were accommodated at the original prices, he said, the Dodgers would not have enough ticket inventory for individual and group sales."
  13. Here's another good list if you're just looking at a pop in HR totals: http://joeposnanski.com/joeblogs/32-flukiest-home-run-seasons/
  14. A few others that had a sudden surge in power and/or overall production (though to some degree, all were at least decent players overall): Jim Gentile Cito Gaston Davey Johnson Rico Petrocelli Jim Hickman
  15. Their leadership agreed to the rule, though.
  16. Yep, not going to happen. Move on, people.
  17. "29. Los Angeles Angels An awful system after years of lost first-round picks and trades to bulk up the major league team, it improved marginally in 2013 with some new arms, but regression from most of the top position player prospects in the system was a huge disappointment. 30. Milwaukee Brewers There may not be a player in this system who projects as an above-average player in the majors; the best bets are all teenagers who played in low Class A or below in 2013, and none is close to a lock to get there. The system lacks ceiling and it lacks depth beyond reliever candidates and likely fourth outfielders, with nothing in the middle of the diamond and no starting pitching of note."
  18. I've never heard of Prospect Digest. Is it in any way considered a legit site?
  19. Who do we have to offer the Rays for Price that would make any sense whatsoever on their part?
  20. Few notes: - Romine isn't really a young guy. He just turned 28, and has had a least a cup of coffee in the majors in each of the last 4 seasons. He is what he is at this point, and I can't imagine you're going to see any developmental leaps if he gets more regular playing time again in AAA. - I don't think people are making a big deal one way or another about this signing of Stewart. For me, it's more of a shoulder shrug. The dude has never come close to living up to his hype, and he has a lousy attitude, too. If he suddenly resurrects his career, great! Do I expect it to happen? Nope. - I wouldn't even call what he provides "depth." He has been absolutely atrocious at the major league and minor league level recently.
  21. Yeah, he's a jackass--and he can't even back up his crappy attitude with decent production.
  22. Without looking it up, does anyone remember who the "Face of MLB" was last year?
