    Yeah, that's how I feel. He somehow pulls it off year after year, but I'm worried that at some point, the house of cards is going to collapse.

    Bill Shaikin just tweeted that the Angels are now saying there is "zero truth" to this rumor. Of all the people to start a fake rumor about, why would anyone pick Gomez? Bizarre.

    At a certain point, though, doesn't the old "much better than his numbers look" evaluation become meaningless? If his "stuff" doesn't translate into performance, who cares how good his stuff is in isolation?

    I don't particularly care. I never understood why some people were actually getting their hopes up and thinking he could contribute in a meaningful way. That said, sucks for him on a personal level. Seems like a good guy!

    Not to be too obvious, but the simple answer is that they know people will pay it--so they make more money from it. I don't think there's anything more complicated than that going on here.

    That makes no sense. Freese is going to be their starting 3B. Stewart hit .171 in the minors last year, and has a slash line of .183/.272/.289 in the majors since 2010. He is awful.
