What's the timetable on Rendon. Still indefinite?
I was thinking that it would be a bit surreal having Rendon back without Trout. He would become the defacto veteran star (based on salary and past reputation). with a chance to show leadership by example.
A unique opportunity to try and take on more responsibility without Trout as a security blanket in the lineup.
But now waking up from my fantasy, I realize how unlikely that is.
No timetable for Rendon. Depending on how serious the tear is, he could be out three months or so. Best-case scenario is probably a couple months.

I totally understand the point. But everything is easier said than done.
This team made this bed. They need to deal with it head on and stop using the results of their own previously chosen strategy as an excuse for not being functional going forward.
That's fine, but it's simply not realistic given the current owner. How would you suggest that Minasian and team accomplish what you're saying they should do, given what we know/suspect about the ownership?

The team needs to be committed to building a roster that that could win 100 games with no games played by Trout.
Sure, but that's easier said than done, especially when you have $75M committed to two guys who aren't on the field and you have a weak farm system.

The entire point of the comment was how it must have sucked for Anderson to watch his (QS) get wasted.
Sorry you missed that bus.
Sorry you're holding pity parties for mediocrity.

And they basically have to rebuild the entire pen again next year, too. Estevez, Moore, Garcia, Cimber, Strickland, Garrett, and Cisnero are all free agents (though some will likely be gone before the end of this season). It's highly unlikely that Stephenson will be back at the beginning of next year.
So of the current guys, only Guillo Zuniga (on the IL), Suarez (hitting arbitration again), and Fulmer are controlled past this season.
I imagine we'll see Joyce and at least a couple other guys from the system in the pen next year. Can't go through the same thing again on the free agent front.

6 IP pitched. Faced 1 over the minimum in last 4 innings pitched. Was pulled in the 6th with a 4-2 lead. That's about as "stellar" as we are going to get this season. So yes. Most knowledgeable Angel fans and baseball fans would consider Anderson's outing as stellar.
Average isn't stellar, no matter how you try to spin it.

Because it makes no sense to call up Adams or anyone else to sit on the bench. They are also an injury away from having to call up someone who likely isn’t ready to start.
Again, someone like Martin makes more sense to me than Pillar.

After I started the thread, I found this story online: https://cordcuttersnews.com/comcast-will-drop-bally-sports-rsns-after-failing-to-reach-a-new-deal/
Yes, I meant to include this link in my reply above, too:

My dad and I were watching the game on Bally Sports tonight in the bottom of the eighth, just as Rengifo's single was hitting the bag when the screen goes blank, and then the message shown below shows up. It happened as the clock struck 9 p.m. (which is, I now realize, midnight in Philadelphia, where Comcast is based). Did this happen to anybody else watching the game? I have Xfinity and live in Lompoc. (And, yes, I know, they spared me from watching the top of the ninth).
Yeah, unfortunately for you, it's due to a failure of Comcast and Diamond Sports/Bally Sports to come to an agreement on a new carriage deal. This could go on for a while.

Ok Claude.
I'm still waiting to hear why Pillar makes any sense at all, given where this team is likely headed.

Ok. I’m not trying to change your mind. Moniak has the plate discipline of @tdawg87. With all due respect.
... and Pillar is a 35-year-old guy who is now on his 9th (not a typo) team since 2019. He's toast. Complete waste of a spot.

Disagree.
Moniak at least has theoretically has a ceiling.
Pillar was cut by the worst team in MLB -

Watching a Moniak at bat makes it very easy to understand the Pillar signing.
It really doesn't. I don't care how bad Moniak is, there's still no reason to sign or play Pillar. No one is going to change my mind on this.

Anderson needs to pitch a shutout tonight for the team to have a chance.

Buckle up boys.... the Angels are going to be about it tonight!
Angels select Willie Calhoun, place Miguel Sano on 10 day IL, DFA Zac Kristofak

Sure:
It's May 1, and 4 of the 13 position player spots are currently occupied by Pillar, Tucker, Adrianza, and Calhoun--which means at least one of them will be starting every night (since one of Thaiss/O'Hoppe will always be on the bench). That's embarrassing for any team, even one going through a soft rebuild. Zero excuse for having such awful depth.
