Mets "Actively" Trying To Deal Starting Pitching
TroutCron replied to Jammer36's topic in LA Angels | MLB Daily
The Mets will want plenty in return. Controllable starting pitching is at a premium. The Mets will have plenty of action on Niese. The Angels don't really have anything to trade. -
I think that if the Angels ate looking to repeat last season Howie needs to stay. I like Green's bat but his defense would be a big drop off. I would rather wait until after the season and offer Howie a QO. The extra first rounder would probably be a better player than anyone you would get in trade. This team will need to get younger in 2016 not now.

The Yankees are taking s run st resigning McCarthy and Headley. Both will be out fo the Angels price range. I think you try to grt as much controllable pitching as posdiblr by trade then check who doesn't get signed by mid January. If a pitcher worth taking a one year gamble on jump on it. A defensive middle infielder should be easy to find. In no way should thry tender Beckham.

Are yoou saying that CJ hasn't had a backslide yet? Yikes!

Angels sign Cuban IFer Roberto Baldoquin
TroutCron replied to bloodbrother's topic in LA Angels | MLB Daily
If he ends up with limited range we can call him Roberto Mannequin. -
I have no patience for Hammy. He has done nothing to deserve our suppport. There is definitely a need for a left handed bat to DH and play some OF-IB. Another need is a utility INF. who can play SS. Should be able to find a lefty reliever for a cheap one year deal, as long it is not Thatcher. This team is razor thin and will not be able ro absorb any major injuries. If trades are made I would like to see young, controllable players in return. I agree that it is much better to build from within.

Yost said during a post game interview that Escobar bunted on his own. Definitely was an ill advised attempt. I am still at a loss as to why the Royals failed to put runners in motion the whole series.

Hard to believe that this group will win another division title. Richards needs to be healthy, Shoe has to continue to perform at a high level and of course there is Wilson, who you can't expect anything from. Pujols is a year older, probably 40, Hamilton is worthless and there is no lefty DH. Can The bullpen put up the numbers that they did from yhe last half of the season and can the lack of depth all arpund not hurt the Angels? A whole lot of ifs.
-
I can see old man Pujols doing a lot of DHing do there is a need for a lefty bat that can play first, outfield and DH.

Howie won't bring much in trade since he is only under contract for next season. I would wait until the trade deadline to see if there are better options.

A KC-SF series would probably produce the worst TV ratings ever for a World Series. Does anybody outside those two cities even care?

The Yankees and RedSox will both bid on Martin and even if they don't he will get over 10 mil. A season from someone. The Angels won't go after him. The Angels are stuck with Wilson and Hamilton. They aren't going anywhere. They both are owed way too much money to just dump. We have to hope Hamilton can at least hit 20 HR and drive in 80 or so. I can't see Howie hitting cleanup for an entire season, though next season is his walk year which might lead to a big season for him. Give Cron an opportunity to play every day and see what he can do. Get a veteran OF for the bench instead of Navarro. Address the backup catcher position. I wouldn't sign a free agent pitcher for more than 2 years. The Angels need to concentrate on building the system.

Rays GM Andrew Friedman leaves for Dodgers
TroutCron replied to sneaky_flute's topic in LA Angels | MLB Daily
He did a great job of building the farm system by taking advantage of drafting in the top 5 for several years. Let's see how he does drafting in the last five( or surrendering a first for a tendered free agent). I think it is a solid hire for the Dodgers. -
Andrew Miller would be too costly. He is probably looking at 3/20 or more. There will be several teams like the Red Sox, Tigers, and Yankees bidding, not to mention the Orioles and Dodgers as well. The Angels can't get into a bidding war for Miller.

WFAN rumor: Mets interested in Hamilton
TroutCron replied to NJHalo's topic in LA Angels | MLB Daily
No way any team is taking Hamilton and giving up a major league pitcher. The Angels have zero leverage in this situation. He is the 90 million "white elephant" in the room. We are stuck with him. -
I look forward to free agency, the winter meetings and all the hot stove gossip. I have the thought of Angels baseball returning in February to get me through the long winter. It is always nice to have something to look forward to.

Before the 3 run Jack he had only given up one hit. He has thrown less than 100 pitches. The fact is Mattingly was scared to death to go to that awful pen thus he left Kershaw in for the seventh inning. The blame should go to Colletti for not having a decent pen to back up the strong starting pitching. Also, St. Louis has Kershaw's number.
-
I am worried that Seattle lands a big bat like Cruz. I think they may be the team to beat in the west next season. I think the Angels need to beef up the starting pitching in the upper levels of the system. I would like to see Howie traded for potential young pitching not major league ready. You can't get stuck in a situation like last season where you run out of starters and have to tax the pen for six weeks.

Scioscia will not be fired. If the Dodgers dump Mattingly and ask for permission to talk to Scioscia, Arte would probably agree and ask for compensation. At that point I would be happy to see the Dodgers take him off our hands. With Dipoto searching for the next manager it would probably be someone from the DBacks. I will never forgive Scioscia for starting Wilson and Hamilton in game three. Should be an interesting next two months.

Josh Hamilton reflects on 'frustrating' season, unhappy fans
TroutCron replied to Chuck's topic in LA Angels | MLB Daily
He finds it funny that the fans boo him. He did us all a big favor with his outrageous production. He is just so unlikable and shows no enthusiasm for the game that has made him wealthy beyond our wildest imaginations. Mod edit-don't go there -
We need to find players who can get it done...
TroutCron replied to QuinlansMinion's topic in LA Angels | MLB Daily
I think most are forgetting that the first two games of the series were winnable with one clutch hit in each. Win those two and this series would have belonged to the Angels. Hitting with RISP was a problem all season. It cost the Angels this series. Wholesale changes are not needed. If anything this team needs is to get younger. Scouting will be key and diving head first into the Latin market and Asia are an absolute necessity. DiPoto needs to make it happen.
