So I would say certainly there is competition." there you go. no matter what happens, it certainly won't be a cautionary tale for FA's with the angels. i think he probably starts with the team. i could see him being released and another team picks him up, but i could also see him clearing and accepting an assignment to AAA with the angels. all of these are reasonable possibilities. adell isn't pushing phillips out of his role this spring, but moniak certainly is making his case.

i wouldn't even know how to look it up. what i said was "fringe guys get cut all the time." and that's true. he's got a contract for one year and 1.2 million, right? that's fringe. by his own admission the angels were the only team to offer him a major league deal, any other offer he got was a minor league contract. that's a fringe guy. also, as i said, i wasn't advocating for his release, but angels1961 isn't totally out of the water on this one. the angels signed him for defense, baserunning and clubhouse presence. i think that gets him on the roster no matter how he hits in spring, but if he craters beyond his already cratered numbers from his mlb career, then i wouldn't be shocked if the angels went a different direction. it certainly wouldn't be cause to ward off any other player from signing with the angels.

not if you go basically o'fer on the spring with a ton of K's. fringe guys get signed all the time and cut in the spring. i'm not advocating that, but angels1961 has a valid point.

the position requires more arm strength and accuracy, as you said, but the position is harder because most batters are right handed so they will be driving the ball hard to left, right and center of the SS position. also, because of the prevalance of RH batters there are many more opportunities. taking both of those realities into consideration it requires a higher level of athleticism. 2b has those same qualities with LH hitters, but in significantly fewer opportunities. one play where the SS has it easier over the 2b is in double plays or plays at second base where the SS has the runner in his eyeline, but the 2b has the runner to his back.

i don't think maddon was laid back at all while he was the manager of the angels. i think it's pretty self evident that he was controlling and manipulative. his own words, actions, and his book where he confesses to it as much. one barely has to even read between the lines. i remember nevin as a padre and he was hot headed. i'm sure he's mellowed a tad, but those personality types are way too direct to connive behind the scenes, they'd just rather call you an asshole and tell you fuck off.

i haven't seen any kelenic videos or IG posts here, and he definitely doesn't have angels in his profile. so, he's clearly not serious about his job. for real though, adell post some videos of you making good reads shagging balls off the bat and i'll give you 13 pages of love.

i understand, but i lack that stubborness. i look at it like any other relationship. if i'm not happy with it at all, then i'll bounce. it's not a threat or anything like that. i just thought it was interesting that i feel more invested in ohtani than i do the angels.

that's an interesting last sentence. i've realized slowly that i really don't care much about the angels or any other team any more. i just like baseball. the business of baseball has stolen my fanhood from me. i don't care for arte as an owner and i don't really care for him as a personality type either for that matter. if they completely blow the ohtani situation, don't sign him and don't trade him for maximum value, then i think i'd keep an eye on the angels because i like some of their players still, and i'd probably become a fan of the team ohtani signs with because i actually enjoy watching him play and i do like him as a person as well, from what i've seen of him.
