  1. yeah, i've looked at all his career numbers before and it's hard to paint any kind of rosy picture.
  2. if he finishes this season on the angels and he doesn't have an extension already, then the angels are the biggest fools in mlb.
  3. connor joe reminds me of former angels farmhand hank conger. the first time i saw hank i was like, hank conger?
  4. i remember this coming up at the time as well, and was going to bring it up a few different times this offseason, but i didn't know how to find his monthly breakdowns to point it out or even what the numbers turned out to be.
  5. i looked up some stats. it's mostly an improvement with opportunities, not really skill based. he has more war because he played more games. soto seems to be his equal, and fletcher actually outpaces him in all the defensive metrics. if one of those guys is going to get the majority of a season's opportunities. it seems like fletcher is better than either of them. the real unknown is whether or not soto is going to be one of those guys who performs better at the MLB level than he did in the minor leagues. if so, then he's clearly the best choice of the three, imo.
  6. he's not very good. how is he better than what we have?
  7. super good value, unless he's dead. i didn't pay any attention to his last season, but he must have been injured.
  8. the bassitt miss was a big miss. he would have been an awesome addition.
  9. thats a bad trade for the angels. rengifo has value. teams like him.
  10. angels better stop fucking around with trying to field a middling team that barely sneaks into the playoffs or they're going to find out what life without ohtani is like. i don't think an 80ish win team is very convincing.
  11. i really don't think they were ever swinging at any of them really. it just didn't make sense, especially when combined with the number of realistic suitors for those 4. i said before i think there's a trade coming that's going to sting a bit, but maybe that sting is too much for perry's tolerances and he goes elsewhere and rides with what he's got in house. it's not too crazy. the worst outcome is if they do what they did a couple years ago and get off to a really exciting start only to not really do anything else to really make the big jump in improvement.
  12. myers is a very good 1b and i think a very good OF as well, who can cover CF if necessary. i have no idea what his contract expectations might be. i'm sure he's trying to land a starting job somewhere, and he's good enough to get one, but he's been a roving bench player for the padres.
  13. i agree. i'd be very surprised if they stood pat on SS.
  14. i think the angels are going to miss out on the big SS. the bogarts deal probably has a big impact on some of the angels behind the scenes mechanations. i just don't see us landing correa or swanson anymore. i do think it's likely they make a trade for a SS now, but i think what i said above affects that too. i think we make a trade that stings a bit to read for our return. i said in another thread, if the above is remotely true, that i'd like to see wil myers brought in, or lesser brian anderson or edwin rios.
  15. i think if the angels could land one of wil myers, brian anderson, or edwin rios for the bench then that would complete that portion of the offseason. wil myers would be great, but i haven't heard anything about what his FA expectations are. he's just good enough to want to find a starting spot on a team most likely, but he'd be an excellent addition to our bench and he's very capable defensively. i think that would be another raise the floor move for perry. anderson and rios both would certainly take bench roles and they'd also be good bench guys with upside too, but a step below myers most likely.
  16. the amount of shit that i've heard red sox fans throw at san diego fans for 50 years is unbelievable. fans of these marquee teams have enjoyed baseball being basically only about them for generations, and they've talked out of the side of their necks about fans being "fair weather" and so much nonsense. i hope the padres do win a WS, the fans in san diego have never got jack shit for their fandom for 60 years. the red sox have won 4 world series in the last 20 years, more than any other franchise, and these fair weather red sox fans are losing their minds this offseason because their team is kinda shitty...and they'll still talk shit about the angels. fuck them.
  17. i was listening to the rich eisen show and chris brockman, eisen's number two on the show, who is a bostonian was talking about how he's going to dump the red sox for the padres because of ownership, etc. i literally spoke outloud to myself because of it. who's the fair weather fans now, assholes?!
  18. that was a damn fine post doc. really illustrated some great team building points from a FO perspective.
  19. feels like mets. cohen is over the moon on payroll and senga seems like he'd go for the ny mets state of mind.
  20. you failed the assignment. "Manaea, is one of those guys that completely baffles me, I've never really understood how he gets it done"
