  1. my keen eye and deeply nuanced understanding of pitching tells me it's his extension.
  2. my very first sentence was that seidler let the cat out of the bag for mlb. does that sound like something manfred would like?
  3. i actually think you could get a better player for a similar package.
  4. i didn't realize you were god. this is pretty funny if you intended it as a joke.
  5. i think of it this way. i think the newish padre owner, pete seidler, let the cat out of the bag for MLB when it comes to finances and income. the padres have the 3rd highest taxed payroll right now and they have been in their entire history one of the small media market teams. mexico, ocean, and desert surrounding it. they had more in common with the pirates than the dodgers, and since this guy took over they're clearly allocating all their money back into the franchise, major league and otherwise. no one will convince me, especially rob manfred, that the angels can not operate similarly to the padres, red sox, dodgers, yankees, etc. the difference has always been in ownership expectations. the angels can sign ohtani to any contract and have trout, rendon, and more if they wanted to. it's all about profit expectations. the question is going to be, why do the new owners want to own the team, and what kind of vision do they have to increase revenue streams and new category opportunities? i think a new stadium will be a given. prepare for significantly increased ticket prices.
  6. i'd bet if the angels were winning and they offered him 10/400 or similarly he'd take it. i just don't think he's the every last dollar guy. i think he's already shown himself to care significantly about his happiness with where he's playing and his sense of loyalty. i think a huge contract is probably enough. i doubt he cares much about being the highest paid player in mlb, which brings to mind his vision board from his youth. was being the highest paid mlb player on his board?
  7. being that nevin did a pretty good job of turning around a sinking ship. i'd take this with a grain of salt. i would also say, if the clubhouse was that fractured to begin with, then what was joe maddon even good at then?
  8. i already know the answer, but let me just set it up. ohtani isn't a concern he's going to stay an angel under new ownership. having said that, what if you could get tatis from the padres for a doable trade? would you do it? i know there's a lot of tatis hate, but his entire padres contract ends when he's 35. he's put up some of the biggest numbers we've seen from the SS position. i don't expect the padres to trade tatis, and i would be happy if we got kim although he's far from the elite SS people are dreaming on.
  9. let me just extrapolate what you said fairly because it is what you just said. if rengifo plays well, if fletcher plays better, if valezquez plays well, if soto plays well, then the 2b/ss looks OK. i think SS might be more needful than a 4th OF.
  10. do you mean baseball mogul? i used to play that game all the time. i loved building the teams.
  11. if they don't win this season, then ohtani isn't going to be an angel the next season. joe blow at SS isn't going to cut it. it's time the angels put on their big boy pants and start acting like a marquee franchise. you got the kid ohtani from japan just looking to take a foothold in mlb. if you want to keep the legendary superstar, then start acting like the dodgers, red sox, yankees, etc. the one foot in, one foot out days of moreno are over.
  12. you could be right and i could be wrong, but i feel exactly the opposite. his bat was big boy big, not just hot, for an extended period and it looked like it was approach driven, imo. secondly, the shoulder injury destroyed him and he came back not really healthy trying to help the team because our depth sucked. once he got healthy again, he went right back to the same results as earlier. i think he unlocked his potential with an advanced approach, we'll see about league adjustments and whether or not i'm totally full of shit or not.
  13. well, fuck me then. this thread is too goddamm long.
  14. wait a second, did lion in texas make my ohtani joke himself before i saw the next page?
  15. i'd say the key to unlocking more potential would be increasing his spin rate.
  16. that's totally fair, but i love it when teams just keep throwing arms at you. it's so frustrating to play against. if the angels were so deep that sandoval is going 4, there aren't too many series at all that you don't have the upperhand in match ups. imo, that's worth more than trading for adames.
  17. no. at the contracts expected i don't want turner or rodon. i think rodon is an aggravated shoulder injury in repose and i think turner's propensity to chase out of the zone is going to really hurt him as his skills fade.
  18. no it isn't. you can thank dave winfield for that.
  19. i think he's remembered as either a padre or a brave, but there's a good argument to be made that he should be enshrined as a blue jay. the dude was even undervalued while he was a player. how many hof'ers you know that moved as much as the crime dog? you'd think any team that had a future hof bat at 1b with very good defense would list him as untouchable, but not so with the crime dog.
  20. i really don't think friedman operates that way at all. i think they have plans and they execute them as dominoes fall.
