  1. I think he was leaving because he was mad he didn't get drafted in rd 1 when there was a decent chance that would be the case. Odds are he won't last through rd 2 and the knock on him was that he was immature for saying he wouldn't be back for day 2.
  2. Broncos got a DT who wasn't projected to be there which could allow Wolfe who they drafted last year to move over to DE if need be as he's a bit undersized.
  3. Broncos - picking towards the end of round 1 they could go best available based on their positional needs which are DE, DT and ILB. If they somehow end up signing Freeney before the draft then they can get a DE in the later rounds. They could also use a RB and some fans want Lacy who I wouldn't be opposed to but that's not as big of a need so it would be better to grab another RB in the later rounds. I could also see them drafting a CB at some point.
  4. Ridiculously talented cocky and douchey kid, not unheard of. I knew plenty of cocky and douchey kids through school and youth sports and none of them are as successful as him. If he was an Angel some of the people giving him crap would be laughing at his antics. Regardless what he and Trout have done at their ages is ridiculous and fun to watch.
  5. Awesome start to the game. Hope Richards can pitch deep so the pen doesn't get used much.
  6. It looked like Trout slowed up coming around second so Jackson slowed up getting to the ball at which point Trout ran to third.
  7. I don't really see much to have been reported. There's a lot of foreign kids who come here to go to school that come from money. Anyways they mentioned this morning that one of them was here on a scholarship from the city or something like that, can't remember exactly if it was from the city of Boston.
  8. His dad's got a pair to be making threats. I hope they get the last ahole quickily and end it ends with no law enforcement or civilians getting hurt.
  9. Offense - 3.71 runs a game 4th worst in the AL Pitching - 5.43 team ERA last in MLB Defense - 12 errors 28th in MLB Base running blunders - still a problem Any way you want to slice it this team has underperformed in pretty much every aspect. I expect the offense to come around and agree the pitching had major question marks but no one thought both would be doing this poorly at this point. Even if you take that away this team still makes dumb mistakes which has been a recurring theme for a few years now. Some of what they do on the bases is beyond laughable.
  10. I remember a buddy of mine saying the same thing about Torre years ago. Regarding Mike it's all conjecture by us fans but he defnitely seemed to thrive with a small ball roster and over the last few years there doesn't seem to be much emotion or fire that's evident when you watch games. Last year Trumbo was fired up for a while and it was great to see and the year before that Bourjous was exciting to watch because he was the new guy hustling. I think Mike defnitely still cares now but he wouldn't be the last person who was in a job just going through the motions collecting a paycheck.
  11. No I don't hope my team gets crushed. As far as the Chargers go they should have never hired Turner in the first place but as a Broncos fan I'm glad they did.
  12. The article also says they were in duffel bags. As I said earlier people at a marathon carrying around backpacks and larger bags to hold items for runners and load up on the freebies after isn't unusual. At the local marathons I've been to there's probably a 3 or 4 to 1 ratio of fans to runners so there's a lot of people walking around. I'm sure more details will come out but this also occurred near a hotel so seeing someone with luggage or a duffel bag isn't out of the ordinary or something people would generally think twice about.
  13. Plenty of time to right the ship but this team just seems to make stupid decisions year in and year. I'm still shaking my head at Howie getting thrown out on a pop fly to the OF where he got caught between 2nd and 3rd base. There was no reason for him to be where he was as it was clearly a catchable ball. Luckily the team rallied but there's still no excuse for stuff like that.
  14. We get a bunch of papers delivered to the office daily - WSJ, NYT, etc. Getting my morning coffee and looking at the front pages and the NYT page is pretty brutal showing blood all over the pavement.
  15. Ever been to marathon? There's a ton of people walking around with backpacks that belong to runners or that they use to put shirts/coats in while the runners use them to load up on stuff given away after the race. I have no idea about the size of bombs and not saying the one's used could fit in a backpack but with with 27K participants and thousands more in the stands it's not impossible to think something could get by security. I've never been to the Boston marathon and maybe the security is pretty tight but the marathons I've been to locally (smaller of course) you could just walk up to the finish line without anyone noticing you.
  16. Horrible news. For a long time we've been able to say that thankfully stuff like this isn't common in crowded areas where the most damage can be done. It still isn't but recent shootings at the movies, the school and now this is some scary stuff. Hoping for the best for those involved.
  17. I agree but regardless of what fans, sponsors and so on want every team has to rebuild at some point but that point isn't now. Also agree with your second point because while this team has holes they have the talent to compete now. I don't know what the solution is but they need a fire lit under their asses.
  18. As in standardized tests? I'm asking because I honestly don't know and have been out of the public system for 13 years now. Raising a nation of test takers isn't good and it's defnitely not an effective way to evaluate teachers if that's what's being used. There have been instances of classes/schools cheating on those tests but I know that's not the majority or anywhere close to it. Some kind of method using parent/student evaluations and tests might work but again I know teachers have to teach to prepare kids for standardized tests which really doesn't prepare you for the real world.
  19. Agreed and neither is tenure. They need to figure out how to effectively evalute current teachers and do away with making it damn near impossible to get rid of someone who has tenure. Most of my teachers were pretty good through high school but I had a few that were horrible at their job, one even complaind about it to the class and yet because of tenure they weren't going anywhere.
  20. I'm sure 3 hours a day at that age won't turn them into strippers any more than it will improve the education system. Adding more costs to a system that's already struggling by getting 4 year olds in school just doesn't seem efficient to me.
  21. Every time the discussion of test scores and schools in the US vs. the rest of the world comes up obviously the overall number is what is looked at but if you look at the breakdown by income level, area and demographic some "groups" are doing pretty well. I think many people on here can agree with the fact that money won't fix certain problems when it comes to education. Adding another year of school isn't going to fix what kids don't get at home - parents that take an interest and get involved in their kids education.
  22. I checked the gameday thread last night just for shits and giggles. As a fan getting frustrated or excited obviously happens but I just don't get that frustrated when the Angels disappoint these days. I think seeing the team underperform vs. expectations the last few years has just kind of numbed me to it. Regardless I think the offense will pick it up especially with RISP because they can't get much worse...or so I hope.
  23. Disclaimer - I'm far from a running pro. I'm doing the half at the OC and if you haven't hit long runs of 16 miles by now and 20 miles before the marathon you're in way over your head for the full considering it's less than 4 weeks away. Everyone's different but in my experience training for and doing the runs for a half marathon vs. a full are night and day and those long runs you need to do kick your ass but prepare you for the full 26.2. I've got co-workers who run marathons often and for most everyone it seems there's that wall you hit around mile 22 or 23 and training for it is the only way to prepare you from a physical and mental standpont. I signed up for a marathon a few years ago and had ankle problems that had me missing out on some of the longer runs during training. I had to take time off training after talking to some friends who are serious runners and after describing what I had one of them told me he dealt with a similar issue and time off was the only thing that worked for him. He was right and it worked for me but the runs I missed during training resulted in me getting 20 miles in and having to call it quits. Obviously your best bet is to see a doctor if you think there's anything seriously wrong or if what seems like a small problem doesn't go away but that's why I'd recommend taking time off running first. Running through the pain sure didn't work for me.
