the reality of this situation is that nothing of consequence will happen. our legislators are too locked in to their party position, so they won't negotiate and find whatever middle ground is out there.

if there's any good news to this, it's that it's now summer break for most of the country so the shootings will taper off a bit until august.

I know of a dude who chases down animal abusers vigilante style. Apparently both the Buffalo and Texas degenerates had killed animals before escalating to homicide. By creating just sentences for animal abusers, you can lock them up before they take out their sociopathic rage on humans. But many police and prosecutors refuse to pursue charges against people who shoot and abuse animals.
Just another angle for approaching this. The issue of gun violence requires many different kinds of solutions.

Two countries in a continuos conflict, one that imposes mandatory participation in the military of its citizens and uses that military to exact bloodshed on citizens of another country, is not a parallel with our nation's gun problem. Unless you think the logical path here is the National Guard shoot the rest of the family and bulldozer their homes.
