When you look at the disclaimer (through age 25 season), it makes absolute sense. Most players are just cracking the majors at about 24-25. So the rare few who are up in their early twenties (or in A-Rod's case, late teens) are just really good at a really early age. Heyward was a starter at 20 on a playoff team.

Just posted this in my Scorecards & Summaries thread but thought I'd put it here too.

Jason Heyward is a very good ball player .... he also hit into more outs that took out lead runners than any other 2015 Cardinal.

Force out of lead runner(s):  30 occurences (if he loses a step many of those are DPs)

I'm so sorry for your loss and like many others here I've been through it and know how you feel.

It took us a couple years but we ended up getting another dog and this one is even more ingrained in my heart than our last one, I can't even leave her at a kennel.

Wishing you the best during this really tough time.

Hello AW - I'm back.  Been so busy.  My 4BaseScore presentation took top prize last weekkend at our local SABR conference so that work paid off (cash prize!).
      -
Plus I've been playing with interactive views which you can find here:  Interactive-4Base-Score - Clickable Views

Once you're in one of the games (today's is included) there's a filter in the upper right to toggle btwn each team or a to see both.

Hi AngelsWin - Please note that due to a new long-hours & long-commute day job my available time to spend on game scoring is greatly reduced (I should only be on this project for a couple months)  ...

However ...   I've been generally keeping up so if you don't see a post from me here it just means I didn't have time to post on AW ... so please visit the 4BaseScore.com site because generally speaking I've been getting things scored and posted by the next morning.

Game 68 (W) is posted to  LAA-JUN-2015 page or Front-Page-Left-Sidebar  ... please visit the site

Peter is definitely on the rise over this past week ... generally this happens as soon as I criticize a guy in a forum so let me know if you want me to disrespect a particular Angel or two.

I don't remember Bourjos being booed in STL ... I'm sure there were groans on caught stealing/pickoffs or after key failed at bats last year but I'd characterize fan response to Peter as being more "meh" than anything ... once Jon Jay won CF back last year Peter was relegated to spot starter, late inning d-sub, or pinch runner.

Local broadcasters said last night that his offseason surgery has been the biggest positive for him this year.

I totally agree about his base stealing ... he was caught stealing the other day against the Cubs Lester/Ross battery which is almost an accomplishment.  Also agree on aggressive base running being the true best use of his speed.

My perspective is from a distance ... but whose team is this really?

What I see are some players thrown into the mix by the owner (Pujols & the now Texas Ranger Josh Hamilton), some elements here and there by the GM, and who knows what pieces might belong to the Manager but in the end he (presumably) fills out the lineup card and puts guys "in position to succeed".

Decisions seem to be made based on the latest shiny object and not from a coherent approach with buy-in from all parties - Owner, Front Office, Manager and everyone in between.

To me this team in its current incarnation is a too many cooks in the kitchen stew that they all messed with too much and now they can't undo what's in the pot (so to speak).  A lineup is so very much more than the sum of its parts and the successful recipe they had last year is gone.

(also ... I wonder if they would've traded Kendrick if they had any inclination Hamilton was going to relapse?)

I want to be diplomatic about this because I really like Peter Bourjos and enjoy watching him.  He had the starting CF job to lose last year and he did - or you could say Jon Jay won it back - or both.  But last year Peter could not produce at the plate.  He has very recently received more playing time and the broadcasters talk as if he's working on making changes to his approach etc.

The fact is that David Freese was a big part of LAA success in 2014 and will likely be impactful this year too.  Peter was of minimal impact for STL last year and will likely be a bit more impactful this year but I suspect it's because he's now recognizing his role and probably embracing it ... just my opinion.

I just posted in my Scorecards and Summaries thread the pics and links - so if anyone is feeling like LAA "lost" the Freese-Bourjos trade - I recommend you take a look.

Again - not meaing to disparage Peter and hope he stays a Cardinal and/or has a solid career but contributions-wise ... Freese-Bourjos aren't even close.

Last year Chuck said I could just use 1 thread if I want to post my scorecards so I'll try that.

Not sure if I'll be able to do this all year for 2 teams again but I'm going to try.  Hope everyone's well and had a good offseason.

Also - I'd be glad to post other people's scorecards on my site so feel free to send to me via the site Contact Us.

Not a suprise to anyone but in every way I sliced and diced the data - Trout was just amazing.

Hi all - per suggestion from Admin, I'll start this 1 thread, bump it myself when I've finished scoring a game and people can click or ignore.  I'm going to try to score every playoff game.  Today will be an increbile challenge so almost certainly a game or two will bleed over into tomorrow on my site.

I'm not a writer, I'm not here to voice opinions, I'm just scoring games, testing a method, and sharing with other fans; it's a numeric representation of a traditional scorecard.

Hi to all you Angels fans,

This is to introduce my scoring project which I began almost 15 months ago, just playing around with an idea, using STL Cardinals and LA Angels (2013 & 2014) as test teams.

Chuck & InsidePitch - Thanks guys, means a lot.  I'm certainly committed to finishing 2014 season & postseason.  2015 will depend on if I can find revenue/human resource help for this.

One request to anyone:  During my seeking feedback phase, from experts inside the game,  I never was able to interact with a currently active player so if anyone has the ability to email my website link to a current Angel or Cardinal it would be huge for me: https://www.4basescore.com/

What I heard from the retired MLB player and a current MLB coach who reviewed my work is that there are players who " ... give themselves up for the team time and time again with nothing to show for it ... "

I believe an active player would like to see that someone is accounting for their advancing runners and taking extra bases, etc.

    Current counts:
    Games scored 622+
Data line items (LAA & STL):  23,832 +

I like this forum so don't want to come off as a troll but

    In my opinion:

    - 500 club is a bit undervalued due to PED era

    but also

    - This 500 mark is so overwhlemingly as a Cardinal (445) that it feels like this milestone/attention was bought by Moreno.

When he hits 600 - and he will - it will be a truer LAA milestone.

Cycled314 got a reaction from Homebrewer in As Albert Pujols nears 500 HRs, does anyone even care?
    Quoting from the article:

"Just four players hit 500 home runs by 1965, but in the last 15 years, 10 new members joined the 500 club."

This dilution is probably the reason AP's upcoming mark is getting less attention - at least at the moment.

As for Card's offer - they offered what they could fully knowing if he accepted it would be a big hit to a small/mid-size market team.

I believe Mozeliak also knew they'd be potentially hurting the franchise while paying for a declining player - clearly a great declining player - but still declining.

Moreno had no such qualms and bought AP, all his future milestones, and his LAA Cap in the HOF.

AP got a boatload of money.

I guess it worked out for all.

I think the interesting aspect is how it will be noted in STL.

    Hi to all.

    1.  I'm a Cardinal fan first but Baseball fan second.

    2.  My day job is financial systems/data analysis.  I built a spreadsheet scoring system in early July (when the Cards were playing Angels) that I then used for the entire 2013 season/postseason for the Cards.  I think the system does a great job showing "little things" like taking extra bases and advancing runners.

    3.  The team I decided to analyze during the offseason was the Angels and I'm really glad I did because they've been fascinating - especially in comparison to STL.

I'm trying hard to find baseball people to review and critique my system.  After the Freese/Bourjos trade I browsed here and it seems like a really good forum plus I'm scoring/analyzing the Angels so it made sense to create an account.  I've only scored the first 54 Angels games so far and have some questions/comments.

How shall I proceed to get feedback?  New thread?

    Any/all advice is greatly appreciated.
