Cron needs to become a poor mans Cespedes offensively, .275 with 20 hr's and a .750 OPS.  Pujols at the very least needs to match his OPS from last year, assuming of course hes terrible with RISP again.  Trout needs to put up Ruthian numbers of course.  Calhoun needs to stay healthy and provide protection for Trout, but im assuming Scioscia will inexplicably bat him in front of Trout once again.  Whoever plays left field needs to not hit like Jeff Mathis.  Escobar needs to have a smooth transition from NL to AL, and needs to provide his top notch on base skills he had last year.  Our abysmal 2nd basemen need to not make costly errors late in games, as well as not hit like Mathis.  Richards needs to continue his path to becoming a solid #2 starter at worst if not an ace.  Santiago needs to pitch like he did in the 1st half last year.  Heaney needs to continue to improve.  Guys with question marks will have to prove they are still effective (Wilson, Weaver, Shoemaker, Skaggs).  Smith and Street need to stay healthy all season and continue their usual dominance.  Someone needs to step in and become a reliable 7th inning guy (Salas, Bedrosian, Morin, or someone else).  Outs on the basepaths need to be minimal.  We cant lose games due to poor managing, especially uncalled for hit and runs that dont get executed.  
 
If all of this happens, we might contend for the division.  But you are right, there is zero room for error.  As we saw last year, Trout had one bad month but still finished with dominant numbers, and the team couldnt even claim a wild card spot.

I would agree. I often wonder what we could have gotten with that Newcomb package. But still we wont know who got fleeced for a couple years at least. And if I had known we would stand completely pat after getting Simmons, I would have rather just held onto our top prospects. We gave up huge future pieces for a team that doesnt look like it will compete.

That would probably be a very bad idea to trade one of CJ or Hector.  We dont have the rotation depth to be trading away starters.  Outside of Richards, Heaney, Hector, and CJ,  the next batch of starters are Shoemaker, Weaver, Tropeano, and Skaggs.  Between those 4 its very likely 1 or even none of them are reliable starters next year.  If CJ and Hector can both give 150 quality innings of around a 3.5 ERA, that would give us a chance to win the division.  Theres too many questions marks in the rotation to be trading starters.

No.  Gordon would be a great idea.  He put up a .377 OBP last year.  Over the last 3 years, he has had 354 at bats with runners in scoring position, he has a .923 OPS and a .314 BA in those at bats.  
Just imagine Gordon hitting behind Trout, the run production would be absolutely insane.  Two players who can post an OBP that high, with terrific RISP skills, say goodbye to prolonged offensive droughts.

They havent "buried" themselves at all.  They are within 3 points of everyone except the Kings, with at least a game less played than all of them.  I would advise against their strategy of taking the first month or two off, but they obviously dont care about home ice in the playoffs anymore, which frankly I dont blame them.  If they were in any other division theres no way they would have taken as many games off as they did, but I think they know how bad the pacific is and that they dont need to do what they did the last two years which is storm through the regular season.
