There is some smoke around the Astros jumping in late to sign Snell…

He may end up going to SF, but Dan Clark is full of shit most of the time.

I appreciate Trout coming out and putting a little heat on Arte/Carpino.

Jesus, this sucks. Lowered payroll, kept Ohtani for “fan entertainment” and there’s no ballpark plan. Why is he keeping the team then? There is no plan.
-
Whit Merrifield, Michael Taylor and Ward/Suarez traded to Miami for Edward Cabrera and minor league prospect Dax Fulton.
-
I have this gut feeling that Arte will swoop in and sign Bellinger before the end of the month.

Altuve feels like an Astro for life.
Bregman is repped by Boras and isn’t as attached to Houston as Altuve (also a Boras client), so I think he bolts to like NYM.
I think they keep Altuve but Tucker and Bregman will leave. They probably trade Valdez to recoup top prospects for their farm system.

Well… that’s a surprise considering the Astros need to lock up some big names this next year

What’s the pivot?
With the hiring of Washington, the team isn’t going to rebuild. So what is the pivot?
Is it Belinger and trade for Bieber?
Is it all in on Yamamoto?
Do they take on a bad contract to get an arm?
I’d assume a trade for Shane Bieber, Sign Snell and sign a hitter like Soler or Joc
-
this is based off what I would do with a budget that comes in below the luxury tax:
Angels trade Adell/Kochanowicz/Paris to Cleveland for Shane Bieber and minor league reliever
Angels trade Carlos Estevez to Marlins for JT Chargois and minor league reliever Zack McCambley
Angels trade Tyler Anderson to cardinals for minor league 3b man Evan Mendoza
Angels trade Luis Rengifo and Jose Suarez to Diamondbacks for Drey Jameson
angels sign:
Josh Hader to 5/110 deal
Kevin Keirmaier to 2/22 deal
Michael Wacha to 2/30 deal
Rhys Hoskins 2/30 deal
Yuki Matsui to 2/10 deal
sign Joey Wendle and Yonny Chirinos to cheap 1 year deals or minor league deals
Bieber, Sandoval, Wacha, Detmers, Canning/Jameson
Hader, Joyce, Chargois, Soriano, Matsui, Bachman, Silseth
Schanuel/Trout/Hoskins/Rendon/Drury Ward/ Moniak/Ohoppe/Neto
Keirmaier, Stassi, Fletcher, Wendle main guys off the bench

Jordan Hicks will be the first free agent they sign and the biggest free agent they sign will be Josh Hader.

First and last sentences ring more true than you know
Do you think they’re close to a decision or waiting for the World Series to end?

Honestly, what the hell is going on? The small amount of rumors or any legit info makes it seem like Arte is in complete control of this “process.” Have we even conducted interviews? This is the weirdest coaching search cycle they’ve had.
-
I’m curious to when the Angels actually announce their hire. Seems very quiet with just assumptions on names they could be interviewing. The last two coaching searches had the list of names they interviewed.

More to it.
Is Perry being replaced?
-
Well… that’s interesting. If Tamin is gone I’m assuming this is a full house cleaning.

Does anyone know why Edgar Quero was pulled in the 6th inning tonight in Double A? Doesn’t seem like an injury…

MLB.com has now weighed in with mock potential Shohei Ohtani trade proposals
They mostly read favorable to the Angels, IMO. Big offers.
Values, according to trade simulator:
- Tampa (64.9) for Ohtani (44.3)
- Orioles (47.2) for Ohtani
- Yankees (70.6) for Ohtani
- Red Sox (62.5) for Ohtani
- Mariners (129.5) for Ohtani (44.3), Drury (3.1), and undisclosed amount of cash
- Rangers (96.9) for Ohtani
- Dodgers (160.5) for Ohtani
- Giants (39.5) for Ohtani (lol)
- Padres (90.6) for Ohtani
The Rays/Rangers/Dodgers/Padres offers would be very tempting.

You could MAYBE get one of those first three plus the last two...if the Orioles were desperate.
Call me a Debbie Downer or whatever, but I am still not sure the haul for an Ohtani deal is gonna be anywhere near what people are expecting. Chuck's Reds deal is probably the absolute max they'd get, if teams got into a bidding war.
I tend to agree, but I have a feeling if he’s actually available there will be a couple teams who offer a significant trade proposal. I think Atlanta would be one of those teams too.
-
I love that reds trade package.
Here is my trade idea:
Orioles Get: Shohei Ohtani, Chris Devenski and Jaime Barria
Angels Get: Colton Cowser (#2 prospect), Heston Kjerstad (#4 prospect) (# Coby Mayo (#7 prospect), Cade Povich (#11 prospect) and Seth Johnson (#14 prospect)

I would not be surprised if they add someone in the next week who’s a roster crunch or a vet on a minor league deal who will be released.
