From the full/updated article on Cimber:

"He was only one pitch away from getting out that inning,” Manager Ron Washington said. “And I’ve seen him many times make that pitch. Tonight he just didn’t do it. Maybe we have to go back to the drawing board and start putting him in some situations where he can get his game back together. And we might have to pull someone else out of that bullpen and see if they can step up in those situations.”

You think, Ron?  Cimber was OK last night, but I think maybe back to backs don't agree with him.  P.S.  Ron, Cimber doesn't exactly have the kind of stuff that puts the fear of God in a team like the Yankees.

If a reliever isn't going to throw strikes, like Cimber, I'd rather see Joyce and his 102 mph in the game.  Just a hint, Ron.

  2. We just need to be very sure that we're not drafting the next Kaleb Cowart or Chevy Clarke.  BPA, please.

Also, a lot of people seem to be down on Schanuel, I think it's a bit early for that.  He was obviously rushed,

give him a full season's worth of at bats, and an offseason to train, and evaluate him at the end of the 2025 season.

It doesn't help the organizations talent levels to trade him after 1 or 1 and a half seasons and have him become a good player on another team.

  3. I'd trade Rengifo if I could.  As good as he's been with the bat, he's defensively challenged everywhere he plays, with the possible exception of 2B.

If he continues to hit, he should at least bring back a good prospect, somewhere inside the acquiring teams top 10-15.

Regardless of how good Anderson is pitching, he's still a number 4/5 starter at best on a contending team. You're not throwing him out there in the playoffs and feeling great about it. A small loss of control and he's a homerun derby pitcher. You absolutely shop him but the Angels won't be blown away by the return.

Anderson also has a very team friendly contract with another full season to run on it.  A return may be nicer than you think.

  5. With the stuff that Sandoval and Detmers occasionally trot out there, they should be winning pitchers.  The problem seems to be that neither of them is capable of building on a successful outing the next time out, or the time after.

So far in their careers, they haven't been able to prove that they are capable of doing that.

I became an Angels fan in '66 so I've seen almost every decade of failure. This latest one has probably been the worst to suffer through. It is like the Ryan years where we had one of the best pitchers on the worst team.

I was just behind Blarg, 1970 for me.  It felt like we couldn't score at all in the early 70's, kind of like what's going on now.  Relying on mediocre hitters that have washed out of other organizations as our 3-4-5 hitters is bad, really bad.  We can only hope that the draft can bring in a serious influx of talent, both at the plate and on the mound.

One thing that I've never understood is that so many good So. Cal based players become stars for other teams, but the Angels never seem to draft any of them.  Troy Glaus is about the only one that comes to mind that was a local guy selected by the Angels.

  7. If Anderson can keep pitching at an ERA below 3.50, every contender will make an offer.  His contract is also team friendly for a SP.

Rengifo has value for the bat alone.  Drury has value if the bat improves.  Estevez would bring back a nice return.  I would trade Sandoval as a change of scenery candidate, hoping I could get a decent minor league SP in return.

O'Hoppe, Neto, Schanuel, and Adell have to stay as part of a core of young talent.  Same for Detmers and Soriano.  Dana and Kerry are untouchable, IMO.
