I'm only talking about what was visible on the field.
When player x refuses to work the count, grounds the first or second pitch to 2B over and over again, and jogs to 1B, what does that tell you about urgency or accountability? And especially when player X is hitting in the 1-2-3-4-5 spot?
I get that players suck, but the least you can do in those situations is run up the pitcher's pitch count and run it out to 1B.
It's not necessary to know what was said behind closed doors. Whatever was said, or not said, the message sent probably wasn't the correct one.
