  1. Fair enough, but that mostly just means they lack depth for injuries more than other teams. If weaver pitches like a #3 he won't be benched. The Angels will still probably add pitching depth too.
  2. Every team has ifs, that's why you play the game. Garza is a solid #3 with some health concerns. The one person who said all other options besides Garz are garbage is being ridiculous and expects above average starters as #5's for a team with a top offense.
  3. I also don't blame Scioscia for the years Pujols and Hamilton had.
  4. He actually did pretty well last ST. If he does well again this ST he won't be released.
  5. Do the umps have to go look at it or do they have a dedicated reviewer in a booth for these?
  6. Are you referring to him not returning to the Angels? If so, that's a bad example. He went to the contending team right next door.
  7. Hasn't the only report on tanaka involving money said that he wants at least 17 mil a year? If he prefers a certain location, team, etc, he might not go to the highest bidder
  8. The reds park is very HR friendly, so that is the one big argument for why he might do good with the angels, even though it's the AL.
  9. Anybody who hates on the Blanton signing should not be for signing Arroyo. Granted I thought Blanton would do better last year. Being from Cincinnati, Arroyo reminds me of Blanton. A signing that looks good on paper, but could backfire. I think the chances of Blanton rebounding are about as good as Arroyo having success here.
  10. What.. Are you trolling? You're saying that we should just accept things because that's the way they are? Should women and black people never have been given the right to vote? And it's not really a casual opinion. It has medical benefits, google Dr Sanjay Gupta. It would provide a lot of tax revenue (well over $250,000 in Colorado alone on the first day of sales), and would get that money out of organized crime. That's just the start of the argument.
  11. It really comes down to how tight Arte's budget actually is. If he is flexible and wants the best pitcher, then make a serious run at him. If money is tight and might affect Trout, etc., then weigh other options (Garza, Maholm, etc.) and get the best deal on one. We don't know how big his budget actually is, as seen by who has been signed the last two years and who the Angels said they could afford. Since we don't know that none of us can really say who the best option is for the team.
  12. It's like the Napoli situation last year with Boston, they just don't want to give him as much money as they initially offered.
  13. I hate comments like these. The Red Sox obviously didn't have any question marks last year, that's why they won the World Series.
  14. Weaver had the injury last year but still pitched to a #1.5 type year. If you factor in his previous several years I would say he is still a solid #1. The velocity decline is worrisome but he has never relied on velocity to get batters out. Wilson had a #2 type season last year and he was the ace on a World Series team not that long ago. Id argue he is still a solid #2. That being said, I still support getting tanaka or garza as long as it doesn't impact future budgets too much (i.e. Extending Trout). If the FO thinks they will, then I'd be all for getting a couple of high risk high reward types on short deals and expect one of them to pan out
  15. We should have a top offense and have a solid #1 and #2, having another #2 would be nice but is by no means necessary
  16. I think not getting a relief pitcher comes down to roster space at this point. They can always add that during the season.
  17. I think that might have been the most likely reason for Hamilton's season last year
  18. Caloun, a healthy Pujols, maybe a faster replacement for Trumbo
  19. I bet Conger sees a lot of DH time, then maybe sign a righty for a platoon.
  20. Do the D-Backs have enough depth to deal both? Trumbo + what for both?
  21. On paper our infield D should be good. Aybar is good, Kendrick average to above average, Pujols (if healthy) above average, and Freese (if healthy) average. A couple of question marks, but it should be at least average. Last year our whole team sucked on D for some reason, so it's tough to just base our defense off of last year.
