  1. I don't really know who you're talking about but at least for amateur scouts, sabermetrics knowledge isn't needed at all. They are more for looking at basic skill sets and predicting how players will grow.
  2. He's fighting for a job, spring training for him is a lot different than for someone like Pujols.
  3. Skaggs used to throw mid 90s, the theory was that a mechanical issue caused him to lose some velocity. (Fire butcher)
  4. The article was about how he is still a dominant pitcher despite his velocity
  5. At this point I think Jepsen is a lock, too. They will have him on a short leash, though, and replace him if he struggles. I don't see them cutting him without being given one more chance.
  6. If they really are debating going with 8 bullpen arms to start the year, I hope they just start him on the DL and go with 7 arms. Make sure he's healthy before you start him up again.
  7. There is probably a very small correlation if you look at aggregate stats, but when looking player by player it doesn't really help. Not only are players not playing how they would during the year (effort, pitch choice, working on something specific, limited playing time, etc.), but the sample size is just very small. Look at this and see how Angels players did last spring and compare it to their actual season here
  8. With some of the comments around here recently I wasn't sure
  9. Too lazy to find a source, but when SportsCenter toured the Angels spring training camp they said that Dipoto has been looking at pitching options and will do so into the season in case a move needs to be made. Just because they haven't signed someone doesn't mean they are oblivious to the potential issue.
  10. If he made mechanical adjustments (to get his velocity back up) he might have some kinks to work out control wise. The velocity is a very good sign though.
  11. Of course it's possible, but I think 90 wins is far more likely. A lot of stuff went wrong last year and they weren't that close to 90 losses.
  12. If he can actually control his pitches consistently he could be a solid #3 for sure. Thats easier said than done though.
  13. First spring training game he probably isn't at 100% arm strength or throwing 100%. I'd say that's decent news. It's hard to read too much into it though.
  14. Insert Hamilton 4th, push everyone below down one and take off Shuck, and you probably got the opening day lineup barring injury.
  15. Roster space is an issue if all our other relievers are healthy.
  16. I read that they've considered using him in the back end of the bullpen, so that might take away some leverage in trade negotiations if he becomes available.
  17. The more I think about it, the more I realize how little time is actually spent being required to be where the team plays. It's slightly over half a year (April-September/October). Out of that time, half is spent traveling for away games.
  18. He actually had a signing bonus of 1,215,000. Something a lot of people here forget when they were complaining about him only making 500k. http://www.baseball-reference.com/bullpen/Mike_Trout
  19. If he was actually pitching then they probably didn't put one up.
  20. I think they should hire me then. I won't be able to hold Scioscia's hand since I don't have any experience.
